Syracuse, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team went 1-1 on the day against Oneonta, as the team's played the Strike Out Cancer Game at Onondaga Community College. Brockport lost game one, 9-2, before bouncing back with a, 6-5, win in game two.
Game 1 – Brockport 2, Oneonta 9
Cameryn Duggan continues her hot hitting with a 2-for-4 effort in the first game of the doubleheader with one run scored.
Olivia Hayden also went 2-for-4 with a run scored to match her teammate.
Kellie Gentile connected for a pair of hits in three at-bats.
Annie Dipirro rattled off a double for one hit in her three at-bats, while
Hali Jenner went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Emily Willis-Nersinger and
Amanda Blakely were both credited with an RBI from sacrifice situations.
Pitching four full innings in the start,
Hali Jenner (L, 3-6) struck out three batters in the loss.
Catherine Johnson entered the game in the fifth, striking out six batters in three innings pitched.
Oneonta started off the top of the first with a quick run to take an early 1-0 lead. A pair of runs for Brockport in the bottom half of the inning gave the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead. A couple runs in the second and a big five-run inning in the fourth helped Oneonta take a commanding lead.
Leading, 8-2, going into the fifth inning, the Red Dragons added an insurance run to make it a seven-run gap. The Golden Eagles got some runners on-base in the final two innings, but they were unable to bring any runs in to score. Oneonta took game one of the set, 9-2.
Game 2 – Brockport 6, Oneonta 5
Hannah Jacobs was the hero for the Green and Gold in game two, knocking in the game-winning run in the bottom of seven. Jacobs broke the tie for the walk-off victory for the second time in just three days.
Annie Dipirro tallied three big RBIs in the contest, batting 2-for-4 with a double.
Cameryn Duggan finished 2-for-3 at the dish with a double, one RBI, and two runs scored.
Olivia Hayden connected for two hits in her four trips to the plate.
Hailey Burdick came around to score once and was 1-for-3 in the game with the bat.
Catherine Johnson batted 1-for-2, while teammate
Emma DeJesus scored a run as a pinch-runner.
Julia Palopoli threw for 2.2 innings, allowing three earned runs to go with one strikeout as the starter.
Catherine Johnson (W, 3-5) earned the win in the circle after entering the game in the third. She pitched 4.1 innings, allowed just one run, two hits, and struck out four batters.
The Golden Eagles jumped out a strong start, as they snagged a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Oneonta would have a solid showing the third, scoring four runs to go up 4-2.
Cameryn Duggan hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it a 4-3 game.
Oneonta added another run in the sixth to go up 5-3, but Brockport had an answer. Down by two in the bottom of the seventh,
Annie Dipirro got the rally started with a double that brought two runs in to score.
With the score now tied up at 5-5 in the seventh, the Green and Gold were just a run away from stealing the win in game two.
Hannah Jacobs stepped to the plate and delivered the clutch RBI to score
Emma DeJesus, for the walk-off win, 6-5.
The Golden Eagles are now 11-17 overall and 4-10 in SUNYAC play this season. With the regular season beginning to wind down, the squad is still fighting for a spot in the postseason tournament. Brockport is on the road Wednesday at Medaille College for a 3 pm start to the non-conference doubleheader.
