Brockport Outpaced by Geneseo in SUNYAC Showdown

Brockport, NY – On Tuesday the SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team lost a SUNYAC battle with Geneseo at home, 14-6. Brockport is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference with just one regular season game left on the schedule.
 
Owen VanWie scored twice in the contest, making it three straight games with at least two scores for the senior. Jhovanny Olivares matched that output with two goals of his own, giving him 12 on the season.
 
Ethan Stiles scored one goal, led the squad with nine groundballs, and went 12-for-23 on the face-off. Rocco Santillo also scored one, while Patrick Sheridan was credited with one assist. John Felice came up with 12 saves in net, recording double-digit saves for the sixth time in the last seven outings.
 
Geneseo scored a pair of goals to get the action going in the first quarter, taking a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles responded with three straight scores to take their first lead, 3-2, with 6:57 on the clock. After Geneseo scored to tie the game, Owen VanWie got his second goal of the day to put Brockport up 4-3 to end the first.
 
The Knights came out in the second quarter and began to take control of the game. They won the quarter, 3-0, to regain the lead before halftime. Brockport entered the break trailing Geneseo, 6-4.
 
It became a 7-4 score in the third quarter, as Geneseo found the back of the net again. Jhovanny Olivares scored for a quick answer to keep it a two-goal gap on the scoreboard. Geneseo added three more to close out the quarter to make it a 10-5 score.
 
Down by five as the fourth got started, Brockport fell behind even more after another collection of Geneseo scores. The visiting team added four more goals in the final quarter, outscoring the Green and Gold 4-1 in the period. The Knights took the 14-6 win in this conference matchup.
 
The Golden Eagles have a chance to add to their incredible season in their regular season finale on Friday. They are on the road for another SUNYAC showdown, this time against the Oswego State Lakers. Game time is set for 7 pm on the road in Oswego, NY.
