Playoff-Bound Brockport Looks to Lock Up #3 Seed Friday at Oswego

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team will travel to Oswego State to battle the Lakers in the final regular season game of the season on Friday, April 29th at 7:00 pm under the lights at Laker Turf Stadium.
 
Clinched: The Golden Eagles will look to lock up the No. 3 seed in this year's SUNYAC Tournament against Oswego State after Brockport clinched a spot following Oneonta's loss to New Paltz Wednesday night. This will be the first time since the 2017 season that the men's lacrosse team has earned a spot in the conference tournament.

Last Time Out: On Tuesday the Golden Eagles lost a SUNYAC battle with Geneseo at home, 14-6. Brockport is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference. Owen VanWie scored twice in the contest, making it three straight games with at least two scores for the senior. Jhovanny Olivares matched that output with two goals of his own, giving him 12 on the season. Ethan Stiles scored one goal, led the squad with nine groundballs, and went 12-for-23 on the face-off. Rocco Santillo also scored one, while Patrick Sheridan was credited with one assist. John Felice came up with 12 saves in net, recording double-digit saves for the sixth time in the last seven outings.
 
The Golden Eagles are currently in the midst of their second-best season in program history with a 9-4 record behind the 2016 team which won 12 games that season. The team has combined for a total of 174 goals this season and is just three goals from breaking the program single-season team goals record of 176 goals broken by the 2016 team.
 
Team National Rankings: Brockport ranks sixth in man-down defense (0.846), 8th in clearing percentage (0.889), 12th in scoring defense (7.54), and 13th in face-off winning percentage (0.672).
 
Individual National Rankings: Long stick midfielder Aidan Fitzgerald ranks 15th in caused turnovers per game (3.00), Ethan Stiles ranks 22nd in face-off winning percentage (0.665) and goalkeeper John Felice ranks 22nd in goals-against average (8.15).
 
Looking at Oswego State: The Laker's have combined for 152 goals this season with 86 total assists taking 542 total shots. The teams accumulated a .280 shot percentage and a .576 shots on goal percentage with 312 out of 542 shots on goal. they are averaging 45.2 shots per game allowing an average of 40.2 shots per game against them.
 
Oswego State has recorded 343 ground balls to their opponents 257 while turning the ball over a total of 238 times this year. On face-offs, they have a win-loss percentage of 180-118 for a .604 face-off win percentage. On clear attempts, they are 220-264. This season, Gavin Elston leads the Lakers in goals and points, scoring 33 goals and tallying nine assists for 42 points. Corey O'Connor leads the team in assists with 17 while scoring 12 goals for 29 total points this year.
 
Face-off specialist Logan Prescott is the team's leader in ground balls as he's recorded 69 this season and is 151-250 on face-off attempts accumulating a .604 face-off winning percentage. Evan Coleman leads Oswego State in caused turnovers with 16 this year. This season, Aiden Kenyon has started in all 12 games for Oswego and holds a 7-4 record. He's allowed a total of 87 goals making 148 saves and has a 9.18 goals-against average and .604 save percentage.
 
What's next: With Oneonta falling to SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday night, Brockport has earned a spot in the 2022 SUNYAC Tournament. If the Golden Eagles defeat Oswego on Friday they will earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament and travel to face either SUNY Geneseo or SUNY Cortland in the conference tournament semifinals.
