Softball Drops a Pair to Geneseo to Open Conference Play

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team hosted Geneseo for its home opener and the start of SUNYAC play on Tuesday. Geneseo took both games of the doubleheader, by scores of 6-1 and 9-0, pushing Brockport to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
 
Game 1 – Brockport 1, Geneseo 6
 
Madison Evarts scored the lone run for the Green and Gold in this one, batting 1-for-3 with a double. Amanda Blakely also hit a double and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Annie Dipirro connected for two hits in her three at-bats as the designated hitter.
 
Emily Willis-Nersinger and Cameryn Duggan both finished 1-for-3 at the plate in the first game of the doubleheader. Olivia Hayden also had a hit, batting 1-for-4 in the contest.
 
Catherine Johnson (1-2) threw the full seven innings, allowing four earned runs on the way to a losing decision. With nine strikeouts in the game she sets a new season-high and ties her highest strikeout total since joining the Green and Gold.
 
The visiting Knights got off to a strong start with three runs in the first inning, thanks to two home runs. Brockport got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as Emma DeJesus reach on an error that brought Madison Evarts home to score. Geneseo would add three more runs in the sixth inning to secure the final score of 6-1.
 
Game 2 – Brockport 0, Geneseo 9
 
Madison Ross rattled off a double, while going 1-for-3 at the dish in game two. Cameryn Duggan was 1-for-2 with a single and drew one walk. Emma DeJesus and Annie Dipirro both batted 1-for-3 in the contest.
 
Freshman Hali Jenner (2-3) got the start in the circle, pitching 6.2 innings. She struck out two batters and held Geneseo scoreless through four innings. Julia Palopoli entered in the seventh inning to close out the game.
 
It was a pitcher's duel for the early goings of the second round of the doubleheader. Neither team was able to get a run across home plate in the first four innings. Then in the top of the fifth, Geneseo opened the game up with a five-run inning. Leading 5-0 going into the seventh, the Knights added four more to their total to snag the 9-0 win.
 
The Golden Eagles look to bounce back on the road this weekend for a pair of SUNYAC matchups. They take on Plattsburgh for a pair of games starting at 3 pm on Friday before heading to Potsdam for a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm on Saturday.
