Brockport Can't Fend Off the Red Dragons in First Home Loss of the Season

BROCKPORT, NY – The Golden Eagles men's lacrosse team hosted the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Friday night and were defeated by a score of 14-7. The Golden Eagles' record moves to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. Cortland improves its record to 6-6 and 3-0 in conference play.
 
Game Highlights: Senior attack Jack Peterson led the Golden Eagles with two points scoring two goals in the game. Aidan Fitzgerald, Blake Palozzi, Nate Askin, Jhovanny Olivares, and Rocco Santillo all scored one goal in the game. Ryan McCarthy recorded the team's only assist.
 
Ethan Stiles picked up a total of eight ground balls against the Red Dragons as the face-off man also went 16-23 off the draw. Jack Peterson and Aidan Fitzgerald grabbed three ground balls, while John Felice, Max Riley, Luke Conway, and Anthony McGee recorded two. Fitzgerald led the team in causing turnover as he managed to record three of them. Conway and McGee each caused two turnovers as well.
 
The Man in Goal: John Felice spent all 60-minutes in goal as he recorded a total of 17 saves in the game for Brockport.
 
NCAA Leaders: As a team, the Golden Eagle's kept their NCAA leading clear attempts percentage at .922% after going 11-12 on clear attempts.
 
Game Recap: As Brockport scored the first goal of the game the Golden Eagles and Red Dragons would trade goals early in the game as each team scored two goals within the first six minutes of play.
 
With the game tied at 2-2, Cortland would score six straight goals to make it a 7-2 before the Golden Eagles scored two of their own to end the first half of the game and make it a 7-4 contest.
 
Cortland would have a big third period scoring a total of six goals as the Green and Gold only managed to find the net twice in the period to push Cortland's lead to 13-6 going into the final quarter of the game.
 
Each team would only score once in the fourth quarter giving Cortland the 14-7 victory over Brockport.
 
What's Next: Brockport will look to continue its conference play next Saturday where they'll hope to improve to 3-1 in the SUNYAC when they travel to the north country to face off against Plattsburgh State on April 16th at 1:00 pm.
