Field Hockey DOMINATES Keuka 11-0 in Home Opener

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team (1-0) opened the season on the brand new Dr. Linda Arena and Class of '69 Field by shutting out the Keuka Wolves (0-1) 11-0 on Thursday evening.

No I in Team: As a team, Brockport outplayed Keuka outshooting its opponent 29-4 with 22-29 shots being on goal. Eight assists were recorded off the 11 goals with nine different women putting the ball in the back of the cage, while also going 1-1 on penalty strokes along with receiving 10 penalty corner opportunities.

BIG W: The 11-point victory ties it for the second largest margin of victory in program history. The program record for the largest margin of victory came back in 2019 under current Head Coach Krista Archambeau who led the Golden Eagles to a 13-0 shutout over Wells College on August 30th, 2021

After the team's dominant performance, Archambeau commented saying "I couldn't be prouder of the team for starting the year off strong in our first win. We played together as one unit and it was great to see nine different players finish and earn goals along with the defense holding strong to earn the shutout."

She's a Brick Wall: Sophomore goalkeeper Ella Buchanan (1-0) shutout the Wolves, her first shutout of the season and second of her career, by making a total of four saves. She played a total of 55:46-minutes in the cage before freshman Katelynn Banning made her collegiate debut in net in the final minutes of the game.

Scoring Report: Tiffany Andres had a huge impact in the game by recording a team-high six points against Keuka. Her six points were just shy of tying the school record for most points in a single game which stands at eight points and was set by Kelly Henry against Oswego in 2008.

Katelynn Mello and Gianna Salerno also had big days for the Golden Eagles as each tallied a total of four points. Mello recorded one goal and two assists while Salerno tallied two goals. Bailey Lazore and Quinn Guy each recorded three points against the Wolves with both having one goal and one assist.

Four Golden Eagles scored one goal each as Alyssa Fuccillo, Emmalee Moore and Taylor Weber recorded two points, with Weber scoring on a penalty stroke late in the game. Freshman Kalena Eaton also tallied a goal on her only shot of the game scoring the first goal of her collegiate career. Kaitlyn Aitken and the 2021 team leader in assists, Paige Thowe, both fed teammates the ball as each picked up one assist today.

Scoring Breakdown by Quarter: SUNY Brockport jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter of play with Katelynn Mello scoring the first ever goal on the new turf of any player across all sports at Brockport. Mello would also tally the first assist on the new turf when she fed Andres the ball to give Brockport a 2-0 lead before Bailey Lazore would score off an Andres assist prior to Lazore keeping the streak going of scoring then assisting when she helped set up Salerno for a goal.

After taking a 4-0 lead, the women were all gas and no break, scoring two more goals after Salerno's to make It 6-0 heading into halftime. Out of the half, Brockport just kept on flying by Keuka, as they scored two more goals in the third followed by three more in the final quarter of play to shutout the Wolves 11-0 to start out the season 1-0.
What's Next: The Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they'll travel to Elmira College on Saturday, September 3rd at 1 pm in Horseheads, NY at the MURRAY ATHLETIC CENTER.
