Greennville, PA – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team went 1-1 on day two of the Thiel College Tournament on Saturday. Brockport swept Alma College, 3-0, in the first match before falling to Grove City, 3-1.
Going 2-1 for the weekend, the Golden Eagles are now 8-3 overall with just one more match before conference play begins.
Brockport 3, Alma 0 – Final
Brockport defeated Alma three sets to none by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-15. Alma fought hard but it wasn't enough to match the strength of the Green and Gold.
Totaling 14.5 points to lead the team,
Jordan Thompson had 11 kills, three aces, and one block assist.
Andrea Coyle posted a match-high 12 kills to go with nine digs and two block assists.
Myah Frostclapp got in on the party with nine kills and three block assists.
Ashley Allen finished with 19 assists to lead the Golden Eagles in the early morning match.
Kerri McHale had 15 assists and also snagged points on three aces.
Madalyn Bowen led all players in the contest with 14 digs from the backline.
Brooklyn Sullivan came away with nine digs during her rotations.
As a team, the Golden Eagles posted 40 kills and a .231 hitting percentage across the three sets.
Brockport 1, Grove City 3 – Final
Grove City won a competitive first set, 25-20, and then Brockport evened the score up with a 25-14 win in the second set. A match-high 11 errors set the Golden Eagles back in the third, as Grove City took it 25-14. The fourth set was a tight finish, but Grove City pulled out the 25-23 win to clinch the match, 3-1.
Jordan Thompson led the squad again with 21 total points from 14 kills, six aces, and two block assists.
Andrea Coyle also had 14 kills, snuck in four service aces, and one block assist. Coyle came up big with 21 digs and Thompson chipped in with 12.
Myah Frostclapp had 11 kills and two block assists in the match.
Madalyn Bowen got down for 21 digs and contributed on the serve with five aces.
Ashley Allen tallied 23 assists from the setter role for Brockport.
Kerri McHale added 14 more assists for the team, setting up the hitters consistently.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, September 20
th for a road contest against Houghton. The match is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
