Pittsford, NY - The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team lost its season opening match on Friday, 8-1, in a road battle with St. John Fisher. Brockport was able to snag one point in doubles play, but will begin the 2022-23 season at 0-1.
Eliza Gonzalez and
Elizabeth Sirico teamed up in the first doubles spot to score the only point on the day for the Golden Eagles. Their duo defeated the top St. John Fisher pairing, 8-4, on the day.
Olivia Raschiatore and
Lena Paolicelli came up short in doubles play, losing 8-4 in the second slot.
Brockport's third doubles team of
Emma Lissow and
Sophie Langdon lost a hard fought, 8-7, battle.
Taking a look at singles competition, the hosting Cardinals swept all six points.
Gonzalez won the first set in first singles, 3-6, before dropping the next two sets 6-1, 10-2. The remaining five singles matches went the way of St. John Fisher, two sets to none.
Brockport is back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Houghton College. The squads second match of the year is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
