Tennis Opens 2022-23 Season With Pair of Road Matches

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team opens the 2022-23 season Friday, September 2nd. Brockport hits the road to take on St. John Fisher for a 4 pm start. Then on Saturday the team travels for a 1 pm battle against Houghton.

At the Helm: Ed Gonzalez returns to lead the program once again as Head Coach. As a coach in the region for over 30 years, Gonzalez is currently heading into his seventh season of this current stint at Brockport. He had previously served as captain of the ship from 1992-2010, making a total of 25 years as the Brockport women's tennis head coach.

Looking Back: Last year the Golden Eagles finished 4-5 overall and 1-5 against SUNYAC opponents. They came out hot in the fall portion of the schedule, going 4-1 before the break leading into the spring. The squad was unable to keep that momentum in the second leg of the season, missing out on the postseason.

All-Conference Returner: Eliza Gonzalez is back with the team this year after earning First-Team All-Conference for singles play in 2021-22. Playing in the top singles spot, she put together a record of 4-4 playing solo. Eliza was also recognized, alongside graduate Caroline Stewart, with Second-Team All-Conference for racking up a 7-1 record in doubles play.

Back Again: Brockport is bringing back two more members from the 2021-22 roster for another go around. Elizabeth Sirico returns to the squad for her senior season. Last year she held records of 2-6 in singles play and 3-5 in doubles. Shannon Aubin is also back, after going 1-6 in singles competition and 4-4 during doubles.

New Faces: The Golden Eagles are welcoming four new members to the family for the upcoming season. Sophie Langdon and Emma Lissow will represent the sophomores for the squad this year. The incoming freshman class features Lena Paolicelli and Olivia Raschiatore.
