Buchanan's Career Game Helps Field Hockey Push Past Ithaca for the First Time in Over a Decade

BROCKPORT, NY – SUNY Brockport's field hockey team defeated the Ithaca Bombers for the first time since 2011 by a score of 2-1.
 
Turn the Turf Teal: Tuesday night's game was a thriller and with a cause, as it was the team's second Ovarian Cancer Awareness game in which they helped raise money for ovarian cancer research.

SHE'S FIRED UP: The biggest story of the game came from goalkeeper Ella Buchanan. The reigning SUNYAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week showed Ithaca just why she earned that award by making a career-high 31 saves. Her 31 saves against the Bombers tops her previous career-high of eight saves. In total, she faced 32 total shots and had a .969 save percentage.
 
After today's performance, Buchanan's stat skyrocketed as she now ranks first in the conference in saves (49) and wins (5) second in save percentage (.860) and has the third lowest goals against average (1.41).
 
Team Stats: As a team, Brockport had 11 total shots with eight being on goal while Ithaca recorded 36 total shots with 32 shots on goal. Brockport had four penalty corners to Ithaca's 11. In fouls, Ithaca had 43 compared to Brockport's 31.

Game Recap: With Ithaca going up 1-0 in the first quarter, Brockport received three penalty corners with expired time in the first quarter before Gianna Salerno ripped a shot off Olivia Hayden's corner pass which found the back of the cage to tie the game at 1-1. At the 8:18 mark of the third quarter, Bailey Lazore would score the game-winning goal off a Paige Thowe to put the Golden Eagles up 2-1 and give them the victory. Lazore finished with four shots, three on goal, while Emmalee Moore finished with three shots, one on goal.
 
SUNYAC Opener: The Golden Eagles will now look to face off against the No. 19 SUNY Cortland Red Dragons in its first conference game of the season. The game will take place on the road in Cortland, NY at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 24th.
