BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team went the distance on Friday night as they defeated the SUNY New Paltz Hawks 3-2.
Team Stats: As a team, Brockport earned 67.0 points, 56 kills, five service aces, six blocks, 54 assists, and 89 digs.
Offensive Key: Andrea Coyle led Brockport's offense as she recorded 19.5 points in the match from 18 kills, one service ace, and one block assist. She finished the night with a .259 hitting percentage along with 18 digs for her defensive stats. After tonight's performance, Coyle now leads the SUNYAC with 162 kills averaging 3.38 kills per set
Career Night: Ashley Allen had a career night as the setter recorded a career-high 40 sets and eight digs in the match against the Hawks.
Offensive AOTW: Reigning two-time SUNYAC Offensive Athlete of the Week Jordan Thompson earned 15.5 points for the Golden Eagles where she recorded 14 kills and three block assists with 13 digs. Thompson ranks second in the SUNYAC in kills with a season total of 153.
Defensive AOTW: Reigning SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Madalyn Bowen recorded 17 digs in the match increasing her season total to 193 digs she leads the conference in digs per set averaging 4.83 digs per set.
Myah Frostclapp tallied 13 points in the match from 10 kills, four block assists, and one solo block. Alexis Sison earned 10 points from 10 kills.
Match Recap: The Golden Eagles' night started off in a close race for the first match. New Paltz would pull away 24-20 in the final points of the match before Brockport nearly came back making it 24-23 points set before New Paltz earned set one and took a 1-0 lead on Brockport.
The Green and Gold fought back in set two edging out the Hawks 25-21 to make it a tie match before New Paltz went on a 12-point run in set three to take the set 25-11 and make it a 2-1 match.
In set four Brockport would bounce back from trailing 23-21 to make it a 24-23 set. Following a back-and-forth contest with the score at 27-28, an attack error from New Paltz gave the Golden Eagles the fourth set point to tie the match up at 2-2 and send things into the fifth and final set.
In the fifth set, Brockport bounced out to a 5-0 run which New Paltz would slowly chip away at to bring the set to within two points at 8-6. The Green and Gold would get back out to a 13-7 lead before New Platz came back to within one and with a 14-13 lead and the match on the line freshman Alexis Sison came in clutch for the Golden Eagles on a match-ending kill with a set assist from Ashley Allen to give the Green and Gold the 3-2 win.
What's Next: Brockport will return to action tomorrow evening for a 1:00 pm match against conference opponents SUNY Oneonta in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Brockport, NY.
