BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team will continue conference play this week as they take on SUNYAC opponents Buffalo State and Plattsburgh State. The men will travel to Buffalo State on Wednesday, September 28
th to face the Bengals at 4:00 pm before traveling to the north country of Plattsburgh on Saturday, October 1
st where they'll face off against the Cardinals at 1:00 pm.
Last Week Recap: The Golden Eagles started off conference play with a 2-0 record having recorded wins over Oswego State and SUNY Potsdam this past week. Against the Lakers,
Russ Domm scored the game-winning goal for Brockport being assisted by
Max Voyer from a free kick. Voyer's free kick landed just inside the box and after a bit of a scrum, Domm came away with the ball and placed it in the back of the at the 6:24 mark into the second half of the match. The Golden Eagles outshot Oswego State 14-11 while earning more shots on goals against its opponents 5-4. Both goalkeepers in the match had four total saves while Brockport earned one more corner kick than Oswego State with 4-3. Oswego State managed to earn more fouls than Brockport 13-7 while also earning three yellow cards compared to Brockport's one yellow card in the match.
Against Potsdam: Matthew Stefaniw had his first multi-goal game of the season. His two goals helped tie the game up early on at 1-1.
Max Voyer scored the game-winning goal for Brockport midway through the second half on an assist from
Warren Banks to make it a 2-1 match. Stefaniw second goal of the match put things away however as it gave Brockport the 3-1 lead with just over four minutes remaining to play.
Team Leaders: Matthew Stefaniw now leads the Golden Eagles offense having tallied seven points so far this season with three goals and one assist.
Russ Domm's three goals put him second on the team with six points while
Warren Banks and
Max Voyer are tied for the third most points on the team with one goal and two assists each has four points.
Andrew Taylor, Brockport's goalkeeper, has spent the maximum 810:00-minutes in net for the Golden Eagles this season starting in all nine games so far. Taylor has only allowed six goals for 0.67 goals against average and his 24 saves give him a .800 save percentage. In the conference, Taylor ranks tied for first in shutouts, minutes played, and fewest goals allowed while having the lowest goals-against average and second highest save percentage. Taylor's four shutouts also rank him with the 13
th most in all of Division III men's soccer.
Looking at Buffalo State: The Bengals are 3-3-2 overall this season where in its most recent matchup against No. 18 SUNY Oneonta the team lost 2-0 against the nationally ranked Red Dragons. Manu Prieto leads Buffalo State's offense with five points from two goals and one assist. Ramazani Juma and Pat Knudsen each have four points from two goals. The keeper for Buffalo State has primarily been Shae Wirt whom he's started in six games for the Bengals recording 540:00 minutes in goal allowing five goals while making 19 saves having faced 54 shots for .83 goals against average and a 0.792 save percentage.
Looking at Plattsburgh: The Cardinals currently hold a 5-2-1 record and will face SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday night before hosting Brockport this upcoming Saturday. Brian Coughlan leads Plattsburgh's offense with 10 points from three goals and four assists. In net, Teddy Healy has played 630:00 minutes having allowed six goals while making 25 saves. He holds 0.86 goals against average and a 0.806 save percentage.
