SELINSGROVE, PA – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team participated in day two of the 17
th Annual River Hawk Classic hosted by No.22 nationally ranked Susquehanna University where they defeated Chatham three sets to none in the team's first match of the day before falling three sets to two to Susquehanna.
Vs. Chatham: Against the Cougars, the Golden Eagles started where they left off last night winning three sets to none.
Star Duo: Jordan Thompson and
Andrea Coyle both had yet another big match as the two lead the team in points with Thompson earning 13.5 points from eight kills, three service aces, three block assists, and one solo block along with recording 12 digs. Coyle earned 9.5 points as she led the team with nine kills and one block assist. Coyle also led the team in digs with 26.
Individual Highlights: Myah Frostclapp and
Jayda Pyle each earned 3.5 points as the blockers both recorded two kills and three block assists.
Madalyn Bowen recorded the second most digs for the Golden Eagles in game one when she kept the ball alive 22 times from the Cougar's attacks.
Set 1: In set one, the Golden Eagles started out strong by earning four straight points before Chatham scored six unanswered points to make it a 6-4 contest. It was a back-and-forth set that saw five lead changes with Brockport ultimately earning the set one victory by a score of 25-22.
Set 2: Set two saw the Cougars jump out to a 3-1 lead before the Green and Gold regained it by earning four straight points to make it a 5-3 set. The women would not trail again in the set as they took their largest lead by a score of 24-19 before winning the set following a kill from
Jordan Thompson.
Set 3: Set three saw another back-and-forth contest with six lead changes. Tied at 14-14, Chatham went on a four-point run to make it 18-14 only for the Golden Eagles to counter with a six-point run themselves to pull ahead 20-18. Towards the final set, Chatham inched its way back, but wouldn't regain the lead as Brockport lead 24-23 and earned the final point of the match on an attack error from Chatham.
Vs. #22 Susquehanna: The Golden Eagles went five sets with the No. 22 River Hawks only to fall short 3-2 in the final match of the tournament.
Andrea Coyle dominated the match with 19.5 points from 15 kills, two aces, five block assists, and 12 digs. Thompson tallied 16.5 points from 15 kills and three block assists while also gabbing 12 digs.
Highlights: Myah Frostclapp finished the match with 14 points as she led the team in block assists with six while tallying one solo block along with 10 kills.
Alexis Sison managed 8.5 points from eight kills and a block assist while
Kerri McHale earned 29 assists in the match and
Ashley Allen recorded 16 assists. In Digs,
Madalyn Bowen tallied 20, a team-high for the match.
Set 1: In set one, The Golden Eagles took a 3-1 lead before the River Hawks came back by scoring five straight points to make it a 6-3 set. Brockport would then jump out to a 10-7 set before falling behind 12-10. Following back-and-forth action, the Golden Eagles regained the lead 14-13 and wouldn't trail for the remainder of the set eventually earning the set one win by a score of 25-20.
Set 2: Brockport gained the first point of set two before falling behind 4-1 against the No. 22 team in the nation. The Golden Eagles wouldn't regain the lead until a service ace by
Andrea Coyle gave the team a 9-8 lead in the second set. As the two teams kept up with each other Susquehanna once again jumped out to a three-point lead at 17-14 until Brockport came back, regaining the lead of a kill from Coyle at 19-18. Susquehanna went ahead 21-20 before Brockport jumped ahead for the final time taking the second set 25-22.
Set 3/4/5: The River Hawks would go on to win the next two sets to make it a 2-2 match sending things into the fifth and final set of the tournament. Brockport battled the River Hawks to the end trailing 14-10 with the match on the line the Golden Eagles brought the set back to within one point at 14-13 before Susquehanna took the match 15-13.
Whats Next: The Golden Eagles will next travel to Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday, September 7th where they'll take on the Division II Red Hawks.
