BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team will turn its attention to a busy week as they'll travel to take on the Division II Red Hawks of Roberts Wesleyan Wednesday, September 7
th at 7:00 pm. The team will then host the Brockport Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 9
th and 10
th. The tournament will take place over two days as Brockport hosts visitors Hamilton, the University of Rochester, and William Smith College.
River Hawk Classic Recap: Multiple Golden Eagles stood out at the 17
th Annual River Hawk Classic hosted by No. 22 Susquehanna University. On the offensive side of the net, two Brockport hitters really stood out in
Jordan Thompson and
Andrea Coyle. In 11 sets, Thompson tallied a total of 42.0 points for 3.82 points per set. She acquired a total of 31 kills and three set assists with five service aces. Coyle finished the weekend with a total of 39.5 points from 34 kills, with a .235 hitting percentage, and made two service aces over the weekend.
On defense,
Madalyn Bowen leads the team in digs finishing with 51 over 11 sets.
Myah Frostclapp tallied 11 block assists in the tournament with six coming against No. 22 Susquehanna University. Three Golden Eagles are tied for first in solo blocks with two each made by Frostclapp, Thompson and Freshman
Jayda Pyle.
Setters
Kerri McHale and
Ashley Allen racked up the most set assists with McHale helping the team out by assisting on 51 total kills while Allen recorded 40 set assists.
The Tournament also saw the Golden Eagles' new interim head coach
Kate Isaksen record the first victory of her NCAA career.
Looking at Roberts Wesleyan: The Red Hawks have started out the season 1-3 where they won their most recent game against Saint Michael's College 3-1. So far, they have been outplayed 10 sets to 4. Outside Hitter Sydney Yanak leads the Hawks offense with 39 kills, six service aces, three block assists, and one solo block for a total of 47.5 points, a team high. Teagan Weber's 41 digs is a team high where she's managed 2.93 digs per set. Celine Malosa has the most solo blocks for Roberts Wesleyan with two while Charlotte Orgill's 12 block assists is a Red Hawks team high.
Looking at the YellowJackets: The University of Rochester is led by senior and Fairbanks, Alaska native Sonia McGaffigan who has a total of 43 kills over the course of 15 sets averaging 2.87 kills per set. Including her kills, she has a total of 57 points from four service aces, seven solo blocks, and six block assists. As an outside hitter and defensive specialist from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ana Cerezer has recorded the most digs for the U of R with 50 total digs in 15 sets. Just behind her is La'I Yuen from Honolulu, Hawaii with 49 total digs.
Looking at Hamilton: The Continental's first match of the 2022 season will take place on Tuesday, September 6
th at 6:00 pm vs Utica University.
Looking at the Herons: William Smith has started out the season a perfect 3-0 as they've defeated Alfred, SUNY Canton, and SUNY Potsdam in nine straight sets to begin the year. Starting off the season perfectly as a team, Malya Sayre leads the Herons with 45 total kills and 55.0 points made up of four block assists and two solo blocks, and six service aces. On defense, Arian Angus leads the William Smith Herons with 31 digs and 3.44 digs per set.
What's Ahead: After the Brockport Invitational this weekend, Brockport will travel to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). That game will take place on Wednesday, September 14
th at 6:00 pm. The Green and Gold will then head to Greenville, PA for the Theil (teal) Tournament hosted by Thiel College. There, they will meet host Thiel along with Alma College and Grove City College.
