Second Half Run Lifts Brockport Over Cortland on the Road

Cortland, NY – The Golden Eagles handed Cortland its first conference loss of the season on Tuesday. They dominated in the second half on the way to the 86-62 win on the road.
 
Brockport outscored the Red Dragons 44-23 in the second half, on the way to a fourth straight win. The squad is now 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the SUNYAC. Cortland is now 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the SUNYAC.
 
Mekhi Beckett led the way with a game-high 27 points and a team-high eight rebounds. He shot 11-for-17 in the game including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.
 
Monte Johnson came in off the bench to register 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals. He didn't miss a shot all game going 6-for-6 from the floor, 1-for-1 from deep, and 2-for-2 at the foul line.
 
Jahidi Wallace scored an efficient 16 points as well for the Green and Gold. He was 6-for-10 on field goals and went 4-for-5 at the charity stripe.
 
The Golden Eagles attacked the paint early and often in the opening half to edge out a slim lead, 23-16, near the midpoint. Cortland would take the lead briefly thanks to some strong shooting. However, Brockport would regain a 3-point lead heading into halftime.
 
Brockport zoomed out to a big lead with a 23-3 run in the first 8:09 of the second half. Mekhi Beckett was a big part of the run as he exploded with 21 second half points. He went 8-for-13 from the floor and made 5-for-8 from deep in the half. The Green and Gold led by as many as 31 points with 2:04 remaining.
 
With the 24-point victory, Brockport evens the season series at 1-1 and hands Cortland its first loss in conference play. The squad outscore the Red Dragons in the paint, 48-22, in the contest.
 
This weekend the Golden Eagles are back at home for another pair of SUNYAC games. They host New Paltz at 7:30pm on Friday and Oneonta at 4pm on Saturday.
