Geneseo, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team had its 8-game win streak snapped by Geneseo Friday night. Brockport suffers its first road loss of the season, 71-65, moving to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in the conference.
With 15 points and 10 rebounds,
David Grady III recorded his third straight double-double and his fifth of the year.
Mekhi Beckett led the team in scoring with 17 points and he grabbed nine boards.
Jahidi Wallace was the third double-digit scorer in the contest for the Green and Gold, finishing with 11 points and six boards.
Tony Arnold chipped in all over with eight points, six rebounds, and a team-high six assists.
The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start in this one, taking an early 10-2 lead. Soon they finally made it a double-digit lead, taking an 11-point lead at the 12:45 mark. Geneseo would go on a run later in the half, cutting the deficit to just three points with less than four minutes until halftime. Brockport took a 36-31 lead into the break.
Trailing by five to start the second half, the Knights would open the half with a run to make it just a 2-point game. They hit multiple shots from long range early in the second half, keeping the score tight. It would a one-possession game for the majority of the final 12 minutes of regulation.
With the score being tied three times and nine lead changes, both teams battled for every inch down the stretch. With 2:56 left on the clock, the two SUNYAC foes found themselves tied at 65 apiece. Geneseo won the game six makes at the foul line, as neither team made a field goal the rest of the way.
The Golden Eagles are back home next weekend to host Potsdam and Plattsburgh at The Vlog. They take on Potsdam at 7:30pm on Friday, February 3
rd and Plattsburgh on Saturday at 4pm.
