Geneseo, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team lost to SUNY Geneseo on the road Friday night, 60-43. Brockport remains .500 in the conference at 6-6 and is now 9-10 overall on the year.
Freshman
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the team in scoring with 14 points. She went 4-for-10 from beyond the arc and also chipped in with four boards, two steals, and a block.
Zairea Hannah also hit double-digits, finishing with 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
Juan Brown and
Zoe Zutes combined for six blocks defensively on the night.
It was a slow start offensively for both teams, and after the first five minutes the score was tied at 7-7. Geneseo then took a 12-7 lead at the 3:19 mark. The Knights would hold onto their advantage, as neither team scored for the remainder of the quarter.
Down by five entering the second, the Golden Eagles would have their highest scoring quarter of the night before halftime. They would go 4-for-8 from deep, as both
Anna Felice and
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste hit two each.
Jean-Baptiste closed the half with one of her long-range bombs, which made it a 1-point game going into the break. Geneseo led, 28-27, at halftime.
With the first basket of the third quarter,
Zairea Hannah put Brockport up 29-28. However, Geneseo would have an answer. The hosting Knights went on a quick run to retake the lead. They outscored the Green and Gold, 17-9, in the third to take a 9-point advantage into the fourth.
It was early on in the fourth when Geneseo extended the lead to double-digits. Jean-Baptiste scored a quick five points to cut the deficit to single digits, but soon the Knights would pull away. They gradually built upon their lead, creating the final 17-point victory over the Green and Gold.
The Golden Eagles are back home next week for a pair of key conference matchups. They host Potsdam on Friday, February 3
rd at 5:30pm and then take on Plattsburgh at 2pm on Saturday.
