Hannah's Big Night Not Enough in Loss to Potsdam

Brockport, NY – It was the annual We Back Pat game for the Golden Eagles at home on Friday night against Potsdam. The squad lost, 66-54, to make its record 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the SUNYAC.

Zairea Hannah had a big night for the Green and Gold, leading the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds. She went 8-for-15 from the floor and 7-for-11 at the foul line to post her second-highest scoring output of the season.

Registering a double-double, Hannah now has six on the year for the Golden Eagles. Hannah also had two blocks, with teammate Zoe Zutes sending back three shots defensively.

Anna Felice dished out a team-high six assists, while Hali Lucia had five dimes. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste came up with four steals on defense, and Juan Brown scored eight points off the bench.

Just three minutes into the game, the visiting Bears from Potsdam had taken a 9-2 lead. They would extend the lead to double-digits as the quarter came to a close. However, on the team's last possession of the period, Shannon Blankenship got a 3-pointer to go to make it an 8-point game after one.

A make from long range for Potsdam gave the team a 28-12 lead with 6:00 remaining in the opening half. Soon Zairea Hannah would get going offensively, while Brockport stepped it up on defense. Brockport cut the deficit to 10 points, entering halftime down, 33-23.

Despite still being down by double-digits, the Golden Eagles continued to battle to stay in the game. Hannah scored 12 of the team's 16 points in the third quarter, helping cut the lead down to just six points. However, Potsdam would carry a 47-39 advantage into the fourth.

With 6:36 left in regulation, Brockport made it a 6-point deficit thanks to a nice finish in the paint by Juan Brown. Then Mackenzie Higby would hit back-to-back shots from beyond the arc, making it a one possession game with five minutes to play. The Golden Eagles ran out of steam down the stretch, as the Bears held off the late rally.

Potsdam pulled out the 66-54 win, improving to 8-10 overall and 6-7 in the conference. Jakia Howard led the Bears with 26 points and 13 boards, notching a double-double.

The Golden Eagles are back on their home floor again on Saturday, for a 2pm tip-off against Plattsburgh.
