Men's Basketball Returns to The Vlog for Pair of SUNYAC Games

Brockport, NY – Following the winter break, the Golden Eagles return to their home hardwood this weekend. They take on Geneseo for a 7:30pm tip-off on Friday, January 6th and play Fredonia on Saturday at 4pm.
 
Down in Daytona: Just before the holiday season Brockport went south to compete at DME Academy's Mauro Panaggio Tournament in Daytona, FL. On the first day of the event, the Green and Gold lost to Illinois College, 79-63. In the second game, the team bounced back in a big way against Northern Vermont University – Lyndon. Brockport blew out the Hornets, 103-56, improving to 8-3 overall on the season.
 
Team Leaders: Mekhi Beckett is the leading scorer this season for Brockport. Averaging 18.5 points a game, the sophomore is second in the SUNYAC in scoring. Jahidi Wallace (14.1 ppg) is second in scoring on the team, while David Grady III (11.9 ppg) is also averaging double-digits. Grady has been great on the interior this season, leading the conference with 2.7 blocks per game. He is also fifth in rebounding with 7.7 boards a night. Registering 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals a game, Tony Arnold is top-10 in the SUNYAC in both categories.
 
TC Trending Up: Over the last three outings, Tyler Cowie has increased his production on the court. During this span he has averaged 11.7 points per game, which is nearly twice his current season average scoring output. Cowie most recently recorded a new career-high 16 points in a win over NVU-Lyndon. In these last three games he his a perfect 10-for-10 at the foul line, as Tyler is shooting 89.5% from the stripe this year.
 
Welcoming Back DJ: Davonte Jones has officially re-joined the roster for the remainder of the season. After missing last season, the guard got back on the hardwood for Brockport during the trip to Florida. Jones returns to the Golden Eagles now after previously playing on the 2019-20 team that made its run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
 
SUNYAC Picture: Brockport is one of four teams in the men's basketball SUNYAC Standings with just one loss in the conference. With a 3-1 record against SUNYAC opponents, the Green and Gold sit in fifth in the current standings. The full conference picture is as follows: 1. Cortland, 2. New Paltz, 3. Oswego, 4. Oneonta, 5. Brockport, 6. Geneseo, 7. Potsdam, 8. Plattsburgh, 9. Buffalo State, 10. Fredonia. Currently at the top of the conference, Cortland and New Paltz are 5-0 in SUNYAC play.
 
Scouting Geneseo: The Knights lost their last two games before the winter break, dropping to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. Both Geneseo and Brockport have lost only to Cortland in conference play so far. #23 Cole Kattan and #25 Sebastian Pacheco are both averaging 11.1 points per game to lead the Knights in scoring. Kattan is also the team's leading rebounder with 6.1 boards a night. Last season the two teams split the pair of regular season matchups. Geneseo earned a, 66-50, win at home before Brockport earned the, 73-57, win on its home floor.
 
Looking at Fredonia: The Blue Devils are entering this weekend's set of contests at 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC. Still looking for the first win of the season, they will take on Cortland on Friday ahead of Saturday's game with the Golden Eagles. #14 AJ Knight is the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.3 points a game for Fredonia. Knight is also the leads the squad with 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals a game. Earlier this season Brockport pulled out a 1-point victory over Fredonia on the road, 60-59.
 
Up Next: On Tuesday, January 10th the team will travel for a rematch with the Cortland Red Dragons. Brockport looks to even the season tally at 1-1, after falling to Cortland, 63-60, earlier in the year. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm.
