Canton, NY – The Golden Eagle volleyball team opened up this weekend's North Country Challenge with a 3-0 sweep over St. Lawrence University. They bounce back up to .500 at 10-10 overall on the season.
Brockport came out hot and marched quickly towards a 25-10 score to take the first set. Committing just two errors, the team earned a .538 hitting percentage with 16 kills on 26 attempts in the first.
The hosting Saints fought hard to keep the second set closer. However, the Green and Gold still took the point with a 25-19 win to go up 2-0. Brockport completed the sweep with a dominant 25-6 showing in the third set.
Leah Vitiello and
Emma Schumaker matched each other with a team-best mark of 10 kills. Vitiello totaled 11.5 points thanks to three block assists.
Jordan Thompson posted a team-high 13 points in the match. She racked up nine kills, three aces, 12 digs, and a pair of assisted blocks.
Jayda Pyle had the lone solo block on the night, adding three block assists to go with it.
Kaitlyn Jewett had 36 assists, while
Brooklyn Sullivan contributed 11 digs and three aces.
The Golden Eagles are in action again on Saturday for two more matches as part of the North Country Challenge. They play Clarkson University at 11am and then take on Skidmore College at 4pm.
