Canton, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team completed the trip up north to the North Country Challenge with a 3-0 mark for the weekend. The Golden Eagles defeated Clarkson University, 3-2, and Skidmore College, 3-1, on Saturday to finish the set. They improved to 12-10 overall on the season after the weekend road trip.
Brockport 3, Clarkson 2 – 1st Match
The match started in favor of Clarkson, earning the first two match points from the first two sets. Brockport lost the first set, 25-22, and then the second set, 27-25. Then the Golden Eagles began the dramatic comeback.
They battled hard for a 25-23 win in the third set to prevent the sweep. The fourth set had a similar result, with the Green and Gold take a 25-22 win to tie the match up at 2-2. The fifth set was just as close, ultimately showing Brockport with the 15-13 win to clinch the match, 3-2.
Kaitlyn Jewett totaled a career-high 58 assists, becoming just one of 11 players in program history to notch 58 or more assists in a single match. She linked up with
Jordan Thompson (20 kills),
Megan Loomis (14 kills), and
Alexis Sison (13 kills) throughout the match.
Thompson added a team-high seven aces against Clarkson, to go with 12 digs.
Elsie Logan hit career-high with 27 digs to lead the team.
Brooklyn Sullivan chipped in with 16 digs in the comeback win.
Brockport 3, Skidmore 1 – 2nd Match
In the final matchup of the weekend trip, the Green and Gold took the first set, 25-17. Skidmore bounced back in the second with a 26-24 win, tying the match up at 1-1. In back-to-back close sets, the Golden Eagles would complete the 3-1 win with set victories of 25-20 and 26-24.
Alexis Sison and
Alenna Williamson led the Brockport offensive against Skidmore. Both totaled 14 kills, while
Emma Schumaker added 11 kills of her own. Sison led the team with 16 points, while also racking up 15 digs.
Elsie Logan led the squad again in digs, coming away with 23 for the match.
Gianna Felipe contributed 10 digs while in on the rotation. Setter
Kaitlyn Jewett finished this contest with 38 assists.
Brockport finished with 12 aces against the Thoroughbreds.
