Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's soccer team secured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the SUNYAC Championships following a decisive 3-1 victory against Potsdam on Senior Day.
Prior to the start of play, a ceremony was held to celebrate
Jaylah Cossin,
Karlie Mann,
Elaine George,
Sophia DeAngelo,
Lara Kanbur,
Franchesca Polcaro, and
Kiley Longin for their contributions to the program.
Amelia Breton kicked off the senior day festivities, finding paydirt just over 20 minutes into the first half, with the assist coming from senior
Karlie Mann.
Under seven minutes later,
Jaylah Cossin buried her 10
th goal of the season to double the Brockport advantage, 2-0.
Sophia DeAngelo provided the assist, with Cossin beating Bears goalie Savannah Bowie with an excellent low and away shot.
In the second half,
Karlie Mann had herself another senior day moment by scoring off an excellent feed from
Katie Hotaling. Mann's goal rounded out the Brockport scoring and extended the lead to 3-0.
Sarah Emmi of Potsdam ended the shutout bid in the 76
th minute, but the Golden Eagles would hold on for the 3-1 victory.
The Green and Gold were firing on all cylinders, outshooting the Bears 17 to 3 (8 to 2 SOG), and not allowing a single Potsdam corner kick (7 to 0).
Madeline McCrosson earned yet another win, not facing a single shot across 68:38 of game time, and improving her record to 11-2-4.
Emily McCane finished the last 21:22 in net for Brockport, allowing one goal and making a stop.
The Golden Eagles have finished the regular season 12-2-4 (4-1-4 SUNYAC), matching the most wins since 2019. Brockport will await the results of the SUNYAC quarterfinal matchups and will host the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday, November 1
st.
