Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team will advance to the SUNYAC Finals after beating Geneseo, 6-5, in a penalty kick shootout after playing to 2-2 draw after 110 minutes. Brockport will face the Cortland Red Dragons in the conference championship game on Saturday, November 4th at 11am.
Karlie Mann got the ball rolling with her third goal of the season at 5:29 into the first half assisted by
Amelia Breton. Mann's goal would be the only score of the first half, as Brockport went into the half up 1-0.
Looking to create more cushion,
Jaylah Cossin scored just under three minutes into the second half. Cossin's 11
th goal of the year was assisted by
Kellie Gentile on a long ball from the back line.
Sooner after, Geneseo scored its first goal of the game at 50:30 to make it a 2-1 score. The sixth-seeded Knights scored their second at 74:53 to tie the game up at 2-2. Neither team could find a way to break the tie in regulation, sending the semifinal match into a pair of 10-minute overtime periods.
Geneseo controlled the ball for most of the extra time, outshooting Brockport, 10-1, in overtime. However,
Madeline McCrosson was up for the challenge to keep the opponents from scoring the game-winner. Both overtime periods were scoreless sending the women into a penalty kick shootout to decide which team would move on to the conference championship.
The Golden Eagles emerged victorious in the shootout, 6-5.

Katie Hotaling,
Megan Gerber, and
Diane Lange matched the first five PK makes from Geneseo in the shootout. In the sixth round of PK's, McCrosson made the biggest save of the year for Brockport.
This brought
Elaine George to the line with a chance to win it. George buried the sixth kick for Brockport, securing the 6-5 PK shootout win for Brockport. McCrosson spent 110:00 minutes in goal this evening, making 13 saves and one during the penalty shootout to pull out the win.
The Golden Eagles will now head to the top-seeded Cortland Red Dragons on Saturday, November 4th to play in the 2023 SUNYAC Finals at 11am. This is the first conference championship game appearance for the Brockport women's soccer program since 2008.
