Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Clash with Fisher 3-1

Brockport, NY - The Brockport field hockey team lost a hard-fought, non-conference matchup against St. John Fisher at home, 3-1, on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles fell to 7-4 overall following the loss.

The Green and Gold produced scoring chances throughout, but Fisher's Sam Choate would open up the scoring late in the first to put the Cardinals ahead 1-0. Paige Thowe and Kelsey Zehr looked for the equalizer late in the first, but both shots were denied by Sophia Trozzi.

The Cardinals would double the advantage early in the second, with Emma Cooper taking advantage of her penalty shot just 34 seconds into the period. Kelsey Zehr and Emmalee Moore looked to cut the lead in half, but both were stopped once again by St. John Fisher's goalie Sophia Trozzi. Both teams would trade scoring opportunities throughout the second, but the score would stay 2-0 at the half in favor of the Cardinals.

Following a quiet 3rd quarter, Sam Choate's 2nd goal from Anna Melfi would put the Green and Gold in a 3-goal deficit with under 4 minutes left in the 4th. Emmalee Moore would break through in the 4th for the Golden Eagles, taking advantage of her penalty shot to cut the lead to 3-1. However, they ran out of time to try and pull off a comeback, losing by a pair of scores.

The Golden Eagles would control the majority of the contest in defeat, doubling the Cardinals' shots on goal (18 to 9), and shot attempts (26 to 13). St. John Fisher goalie Sophia Trozzi was the difference in the contest, saving all 17 shots she faced against the Green and Gold.

Ella Buchanan would go the distance for Brockport, saving five of the eight shots she faced in the contest.

Emmalee Moore would tie her career high in shots on net (9), in addition to securing the lone goal for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road for a pivotal SUNYAC matchup against Oneonta on Saturday, October 7th at 3 pm.
