Volleyball Outlasted by New Paltz in 5-Set Battle

New Paltz, NY – On Friday night, the SUNY Brockport volleyball team battled from start to finish against the New Paltz Hawks on the road. Brockport lost, 3-2, in five sets, moving to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.

The first set proved why these two teams met in the SUNYAC Semifinals last year. The Hawks edged out the first set point, 28-26. The Golden Eagles caught a groove in the next couple sets to bounce back. They took the second, 25-17, and the third set, 25-18, to go up 2-1 on the night. In the fourth set, New Paltz pulled out another nail-biter, 26-24. The Hawks went on to take the fifth set, 15-11, to win the match 3-2.

Both Jordan Thompson and Leah Vitiello recorded double digit kills in the match. Thompson led the team with 19, while Vitiello added 10. Jordan also contributed a team-high of four service aces.

In this five-set battle, Brockport had five players reach double figures in the digs column. Elsie Logan led the way with 23 digs. Gianna Felipe had 14 digs for the Green and Gold, while Brooklyn Sullivan (11) and Thompson (10) both hit double digits as well.

Kaitlyn Jewett had a busy night in her setter spot. She totaled 43 of the team's 46 assists in the match. Jewett also got involved with three aces, eight digs, and one kill.

As a group, Brockport racked up 12 block assists. Jayda Pyle and Kaia Hubbard both had three each from their spot in the middle.
