Brockport Drops Back and Forth Battle at Hobart

Geneva, NY - The Brockport men's basketball team fell in Tuesday's season opener at Hobart, 85-72, on November 14th.

The Golden Eagles and Herons traded the lead for the majority of the first half, resulting in 12 lead changes in the first half alone.

Following a pair of Tyler Cowie free throws to tie the game at 28, a pair of Carter Meshanic free throws gave Hobart a 2-point lead entering the break.

Turnovers and free throws would seal the Golden Eagles' fate, giving the ball away 20 times to Hobart's 14, and shooting just 55% from the free throw line. Hobart shot 80% at the stripe (28-35) as the Statesmen looked to pull away in the second half.

The Herons rode a balanced attack, with 3 players scoring 17 or more points in the contest.

Mekhi Beckett turned in a balanced performance for the Green and Gold, filling up the stat sheet with 19 points and five rebounds, one assist, one block, and a steal.

Four Golden Eagles contributed double-digit scoring, including Colby Jordan (12, 5-8 shooting), Zachary Rice (11, 4-9 shooting), and Tony Arnold (13, 6 assists).

With the Golden Eagles holding a 40-38 lead with 15:22 remaining in the second half, Hobart would end the contest outscoring Brockport, 47-32, to move to 3-0 on the season.
