Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Arnold's Late Layup Lifts Brockport Over Salisbury on Saturday

Mechanicsburg, PA – The Golden Eagle men's basketball team defeated Salisbury, 68-66, in dramatic fashion on Saturday. They improved to 2-1 overall on the season, after Tony Arnold's game-winning layup in the final seconds of regulation.

Salisbury got off to a great start thanks to some hot shooting from Reed Rebstock, who finished with a game-high 22 points. Brockport battled to keep it close and eventually earned slim, 23-21, lead as halftime approached.

The Seagulls had the momentum going into halftime, working to gain the lead back. They led Brockport, 37-29, at the end of the first half. The Green and Gold shot just 37.04% from the field in the opening half, but that changed in the second.

The Golden Eagles went on to shoot 55.56% from the floor in the second, outscoring Salisbury 39-29 to close out the game. After trailing most the half, they tied the score up at 53-53 with around nine minutes left.

Tied up at 64-64 with 3:24 left in regulation, Tyler Cowie hit a big shot to put the squad up by two. Salisbury answered quickly to tie the game up again with just a minute remaining. Coming out of a timeout with nine seconds left on the clock, Arnold finished a layup to give Brockport the 68-66 win.

Mekhi Beckett led the way with 16 points in the contest, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor. He also added four boards, three assists, and one steal defensively. Tony Arnold would be the only other double-digit scorer for the team with 10 points.

Colby Jordan shot an efficient 4-for-6 on his way to nine points and four rebounds. Tyler Cowie finished with eight points, three rebounds, two steals and a block. Danny Ashley grabbed a team-high five rebounds to go with four points, three assists, and two steals.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, November 21st for another non-conference road game. They travel downstate to face Hunter College for a 5pm tip-off.
