Women's Basketball Cruises Past William Smith, Moves to 3-0

Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's basketball team defeated William Smith College in the final game of the 58 Main BBQ & Brew Tip-Off Classic, 80-58. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was named as the Brockport representative for the All-Tournament Team, leading Brockport to a 2-0 mark on the weekend.

Entering the second quarter with a 17-11 advantage, the Golden Eagles rode an explosive 2nd quarter to a blowout victory. The Green and Gold outscored William Smith 26-8 in the second quarter, giving Brockport a 43-19 lead at the halftime break.

Once again the strong Brockport defense was the difference, winning the turnover battle 27-13. The Green and Gold held the Herons to just 36.7% shooting from the floor and 22.2% from long range.

Zoe Zutes (11 rebounds, game-high) and Zairea Hannah (10 rebounds) dominated the glass for Brockport, with Hannah adding 12 points for yet another double-double.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste produced another dynamic effort, leading all scorers with 20 points and snagged a game-high four steals.

William Smith looked to threaten entering the fourth, cutting the lead to 14 at the end of the third. The Golden Eagles' defense would come back to life in the 4th, holding the Herons to just four field goals in the fourth to take the contest by a 22-point margin.

Anna Lee turned in a solid performance, dropping 11 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.

Hali Lucia was effective as a playmaker, finding her teammates for a career-high nine assists. Mandy Brink, Kelsey Morgans, and Shannon Blankenship recorded two steals each.

The Golden Eagles held a lead for all but 14 seconds of the contest, beginning the season on a three-game win streak. They will be right back at The Vlog for a non-conference clash with RIT on Tuesday, November 21st at 6 pm.
