Golden Eagles Come From Behind to Take Down the Yellowjackets

Rochester, NY - The Brockport women's basketball team overcame an 11-point third-quarter deficit to soar past Rochester, 61-57. The victory moves the Golden Eagles to 4-1 on the season.

The Yellowjackets dominated the opening frame, outshooting Brockport 47.4% to 20%, taking a 10-point lead into the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles flipped the script in the second quarter, knocking down 3-of-4 tries from beyond the arc and shooting over 58% from the floor in the quarter. Anna Lee would beat the halftime buzzer to cut the Rochester lead to six points entering the break.

The Green and Gold would continue to chip into the Yellowjackets lead in the third, shooting an effective 66.7% from the field in the third quarter. The Golden Eagles would end the quarter on a 10-3 run to keep the game within striking distance entering the fourth.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and the Brockport defense would come up clutch in the fourth. She poured in seven fourth-quarter points, as the team held Rochester to just 21.4% shooting from the floor. Jean-Baptiste would sink two clutch free throws to help give Brockport the 4-point win.

Abby Gress was effective in defeat for Rochester, dropping 20 points and 9 rebounds on 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range.

Jean-Baptiste would finish with a game-high 20 points, showing off her versatility with four steals and seven rebounds.

Anna Lee put together her best performance of the year thus far, dropping 16 points along with four rebounds and two steals.

Zairea Hannah (14 points, 9 rebounds) and Shannon Blankenship (8 points, 4 rebounds) were effective as well, with Blankenship adding two steals and two three-pointers.

Despite having 17 fewer attempts, the Golden Eagles matched the Yellowjackets 23 makes, while also outshooting Rochester 40.4% to 31.1% from the floor.

The Golden Eagles will open up SUNYAC play with a pair of home games this weekend, beginning with a matchup against Oneonta on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before taking on New Paltz on Saturday at 2 p.m.
