York, PA – The SUNY Brockport wrestling team was down in PA on Friday for day one of the New Standard Corporation Invitational, hosted by York College. With 14 points, Brockport is in 15
th place as a team after the first day of action.
In the 125lb weight division,
Liam Bullock pinned his first-round opponent in 5:22. However, he would end up forfeiting his next two and was eliminated from the bracket.
Jaden Friel would drop back-to-back matches in the 141lb weight class, getting bounced out of the tournament in the double-elimination format.
At 149,
Charles Loucks received a first-round bye. He then came back in the second round to win an, 8-5, decision over Matthew Trinidad from Usmma. However, his journey was ended after getting pinned in the next two bouts.
Logan Palmeri was one of two Brockport wrestlers that competed in the 157lb weight class. After getting a first-round bye he would fall by a 5-1 decision and by pin to be eliminated in the bracket.
Max Morrison also wrestled at 157, losing his first match by tech. fall (18-2) and his second in close 19-15 decision.
Michael Syposs took to the mat at 165, losing by a fall at 1:49 in his first match. After having a bye in the next round, he eventually lost by pin again at 2:47 in the third round.
Kiam Coleman was pinned in the first round in the 174lb division and was given a bye in the second round. He bounced back in the third with a win by fall at 3:11 to move forward. However, his day ended abruptly with a fall at 0:38 in the fourth round.
Elijah Bonet also entered the invitational in the 174lb bracket. He was eliminated following back-to-back losses by tech. fall.
Heavyweight
Nick Franco started off his day strong with two straight pins. It only took him 30 seconds to win the first-round bout, while finishing off his second opponent in just 1:12. Franco lost in the third round by a 4-2 decision, before forfeiting his next bout.
All remaining Golden Eagles in the bracket will get back to the mat on Saturday, beginning at 10am.
