Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagles took down the Oswego State Lakers in overtime, 53-49, Friday night.
Anna Lee posted a career-high 16 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, in the comeback win at home.
Lee scored the last seven points for Brockport to help push the game into overtime. Teammate
Zairea Hannah notched her seventh double-double of the season, coming up with 15 points and 16 boards.
Going a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line,
Anna Felice added 11 points. Felice helped put the game away in overtime with her work at the stripe.
Zoe Zutes was active with eight points, six boards, three assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Neither team had much going offensively in the opening period, as Oswego would hold a narrow 7-5 lead after 10 minutes. A pair of 3-pointers from the visiting Lakers sparked a run which increased the lead to six early in the second. Brockport closed the quarter strong to stay within three points at halftime.
Up, 19-16, at the start of the third, Oswego would add to its lead prior to the fourth. With just 57 seconds in the third quarter, the Lakers were up 32-23.
Anna Lee converted an old-fashioned 3-point play before the period ended. The Golden Eagles trailed by seven heading into the fourth.
To start the fourth quarter,
Anna Felice answered an early Oswego 3-pointer with four quick points. Down by seven with less than five to play, Anne Lee took over. All nine of her fourth quarter points came in the final 3:34 of regulation. Tied at 41-41, the battle of the Green and Gold went to overtime.
The starting frontcourt duo of
Zairea Hannah and
Zoe Zutes combined for the first six points of overtime to get Brockport off to a strong start. Oswego tried to get some momentum back with a 3-point shot at 2:40 left on the clock. However,
Shannon Blankenship responded the very next possession with a long-range dagger.
Now up, 50-44, Brockport got some nice makes at the line by Hannah and Felice to close out the overtime win. After scoring just 26 points in the first three quarters, the Golden Eagles posted 27 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
The win puts the squad at 11-13 overall and 8-9 in the SUNYAC. With a spot in the conference tournament already clinched, Brockport now fights to potentially lock up the fifth seed with a win on Senior Day Saturday against Buffalo State. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
