Brockport, NY - The SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team is set for its home opener against RIT on Wednesday, March 1
st at 4 pm.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles dropped its season opener at #10 Ithaca, 15-5, this past weekend. Ithaca jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the first quarter before Brockport answered with three goals in the second. The Bombers would respond by dominating the remainder of the contest, outscoring Brockport 10-2 for the rest of the game and scoring the last six goals.
Point Scorers: Cassidy Burnash started her senior campaign with a team-high three points, coming from two goals and an assist. Sophomore
Alayna Foos netted two goals for the Green and Gold, starting the season strong and looking to build on her impressive 2022 season.
Courtney Cunningham scored once for Brockport, and freshman
Courtney Bednarz had an assist for the first point of her collegiate career.
In Net: Splitting time in net to start the year,
Erin Lant and
Hannah Parsons both saw action in the season opener. Lant got the start, making three saves in the first half. Making her collegiate debut between the pipes, Parsons started the second half and made seven saves.
Scouting RIT: RIT will open its 2022 season against Brockport. The Tigers are coming off a 5-10 2022 campaign with a 3-7 record in Liberty League play. Brockport faced off with RIT last season, which saw the #24 ranked Golden Eagle upended, 18-17, in Rochester. Brockport held a 15-10 lead going into the fourth before being outscored 8-2 in the final frame to fall to RIT. Brockport has dominated the majority of recent matchups, winning eight of the last 10 dating back to 2008, and winning six of the matchups by seven goals or more.
Next Up: Brockport will host two home games next week, beginning with a matchup against William Smith College on Wednesday, March 8
th at 4 pm and finishing up on Friday, March 10
th at 3 pm against Kenyon College.
