Golden Eagles Fall, 17-12, Out in Rochester

Rochester, NY – On Thursday the SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Rochester on the road, 17-12. The Golden Eagles are now 1-3 overall on the season with conference play beginning next weekend.

Cassidy Burnash led the offensive efforts once again with five points in the contest. She scored a hat trick with three goals and dished out two assists. Alayna Foos also scored three times to register a hat trick.

Midfielder Courtney Cunningham stuffed the stat sheet with her performance. She had three points on two goals and one assist as well as team-highs across the board of seven draw controls, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Paige Thowe got in on the scoring action with a pair of goals to go with three ground balls. Brooke Beetow and Julia Quinlan both scored once, while Courtney Bednarz was credited with one assist.

Erin Lant and Hannah Parsons evenly split time in net in this one, each playing 30 minutes. Lant made four saves and Parsons came up with eight stops.

The first quarter was filled with action on both sides, as the two teams combined for nine goals. U of R got on the board first with a goal just 18 seconds into the match on the way to a 2-0 lead. Brockport responded with three straight goals to go up 3-2. However, the Yellowjackets would create a 5-4 lead going into the second.

After a competitive first period, it was all U of R in the second. The home team scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter to open the game up. The Green and Gold entered halftime trailing, 10-4.

Brockport came out firing in the third quarter looking to get back into the game. The team scored four consecutive goals to recapture some momentum, making it a 10-8 score. The Yellowjackets scored three more in the period to soften the blow, as they were up by four goals going into the fourth.

Needing a big quarter to make a comeback, the Golden Eagles would give up a pair of scores early on to fall behind 15-9. They would score three goals in fourth, but it wasn't enough to catch up to U of R who held on for the 17-12 win.

Next weekend the Golden Eagles will begin SUNYAC play with a home game on Saturday, March 25th. They host the Cortland Red Dragons for a 12pm start.
