Brockport Battles Hard in Conference Loss to #15 Cortland

Brockport, NY – On Saturday, the SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team hosted #15 SUNY Cortland for the beginning of SUNYAC play. The highly competitive game saw Cortland sneak away with the win, 10-8.

Alayna Foos and Cassidy Burnash led the attack for the Green and Gold. Foos had a hat trick on the day with three goals to lead the team. Burnash finished with two goals and one assist in the game.

Paige Thowe scored a pair of goals, while Courtney Cunningham had one score of her own. Cunningham also ended up with two ground balls, two draw controls, and caused one turnover.

Making the first start of her college career, freshman Hannah Parsons went the full 60 minutes in net. She tied her career-high with 11 saves against the nationally-ranked opponent.

Burnash got the action started with a goal in the first quarter, putting Brockport up 1-0 early on. Moments later the visiting Red Dragons tied the game up at 1-1. In the last three minutes of the first both Foos and Cunningham found the back of the net. The Golden Eagles held a 3-1 lead going into the second.

The second quarter saw a flip in the script, as Cortland took the momentum away. Foos netted Brockport's lone goal of the period. The Red Dragons scored early on and then twice in the final minute to send the game into halftime tied at 4-4.

Both teams continued to trade blows as the third quarter got going. Minutes after a Cortland score, Foos completed her hat trick to keep the game tied at 5-5. Thowe broke the tie at 6:08 to give the Golden Eagles the lead again. However, Cortland found another score before the period ended to make the board read 6-6.

All tied up going into the fourth, the Red Dragons put together their highest scoring quarter of the day. They outscored Brockport, 4-2, in the final period to ultimately edge out the 10-8 win. Burnash and Thowe both scored in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to match their opponent.

The Golden Eagles are now 1-4 overall and 0-1 to start conference play. They are back in action on Thursday, March 30th for a 4pm road matchup with the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College.
