Women's Lacrosse Heads to Nearby U of R for Thursday's Matchup

Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagles are on the road for a meeting against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, they now head out for a 4pm start on Thursday.

Snowed Out: Last week the SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team hosted Kenyon College on Friday, March 10th. The game was moved up in attempt to beat the incoming snowstorm. However, in the second quarter the heavy snowfall was too much and the remainder of the game was canceled.

Hot Start: Cassidy Burnash has been great to start the year, leading the team in goals and total points. She has totaled 12 points on 10 goals and two assists just three games in. In the win over RIT she set a career-high with six scores on the day, leading Brockport to the win. Early on in the season she has a perfect shots on goal percentage and is 5-for-6 on free position opportunities.

Key Contributors: Courtney Cunningham has done it all for the Golden Eagles on the field. She is third on the team in both points and goals with four, including going 1-for-1 on the free position. Cunningham leads the team across the board with 12 ground balls, seven draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

Alayna Foos is the second-leading scorer for the Green and Gold at this point in the season. She scored a hat trick in the win over RIT on the way to six goals overall so far. Foos is 1-for-2 on the free position and has scooped up five ground balls.

Freshman Courtney Bednarz has had a solid start to her career with the squad. She is leading the team with three assists on the attacking end. Julia Quinlan has chipped in all over with two goals, five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls.

Working Between the Pipes: Erin Lant has been starting at goalie for Brockport in all three contests so far. Lant has made 11 saves during her time in net. Freshman Hannah Parsons has split time in all three games, making 18 saves during her shifts. Fellow first-year player, Peyton Curley made her debut against William Smith with one save.

Looking at U of R: The Yellowjackets enter Thursday's matchup with a record of 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Liberty League. They most recently fell to Ithaca, 17-8, on the road last weekend. #8 Lucy Haggerty leads a group of three players that have double-digit points this season, tallying 16 with eight goals and eight assists. #36 Ava Saffren is the starting goalie, making 26 saves and allowing 31 goals.

Up Next: After this quick trip to U of R, the Golden Eagles will have a week off to prepare for the start of SUNYAC play. They are back home on Saturday, March 25th for a 12pm meeting with the Cortland Red Dragons.
