Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking loss at home on Wednesday to Nazareth. The Golden Flyers scored right as time expired to give Brockport the 11-10 loss.
Jhovanny Olivares tied his career-high with five points, leading the offense on the day. He registered a hat trick with four goals and one assist.
Nate Askin matched with a hat trick of his own, going for three goals and an assist.
Ben Hay finished with two goals and one assist, while
Jack Peterson posted one goal and one assist during his time on the field.
Ryan McCarthy and
Carson Colucci were both credited with one assist in the game.
With 19 saves against Nazareth,
Cameron Kuzniar set a new career-high as the Golden Eagle goalie.
The visiting Golden Flyers lit up the scoreboard first with a goal less than three minutes into the match. Brockport's
Nate Askin responded with an unassisted score to tie the game up at 1-1. Nazareth would score twice more on the way to a 3-2 lead after one.
The lead would increase in the second quarter, as Nazareth outscored Brockport 4-2 in the period.
Jack Peterson put away a man-up goal, while
Ben Hay was assisted by Peterson later in the second. The Green and Gold trailed, 7-4, going into halftime.
Both teams traded goals in the third. Askin scored to get the party started, making it a 7-5 tally on the scoreboard. Nazareth would score soon after to keep it a 3-goal game. Olivares would then find the back of the net at the 3:16 mark. A late score for Nazareth put the score at 9-6 heading into the fourth.
In need of a big quarter to comeback, the Golden Eagles got just that in the fourth. After a goal from Nazareth, they scored four straight to tie the game up at 10-10 with less than two minutes in regulation. Olivares scored twice, Askin once, and Hay scored the equalizer with 1:55 left to play.
Just as time ran out on the clock, Nazareth scored the game-winning goal to create the final 11-10. The Golden Flyers improve to 3-6 overall on the season, as Brockport moves to 2-5.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday for a 3pm matchup with Oswego, marking the start of SUNYAC play.
