Brockport, NY – The Brockport men's lacrosse team put up a fierce battle today at home against the Oswego State Lakers. The game was neck and neck until ultimately the Lakers pulled out the win, 9-8.
Oswego struck first with 10:45 on the clock in the opening quarter. Brockport's
Carson Colucci snuck one past the goalie three minutes later, evening the score at 1-1. Oswego would find another score to regain its 1-goal lead.
With 2:14 left on the clock
Nate Askin found the back of the cage to tie the score once again. A minute twenty left in the first period Askin sent the ball to Colucci who buried it in the net, setting the Golden Eagles up with a 3-2 lead after one quarter.
Ben Hay scored the first two goals of the second period within the first five minutes. His first goal was assisted by
Jhovanny Olivares at 13:46, while his second goal was assisted by Askin.
The visiting Lakers answered with three scores before the second period ended. This put both teams into the half with five goals, making it a tie game with two quarters left to play.
Jack Peterson opened the second half of the game with a goal at 12:59 in the third, assisted by
Ryan McCarthy. Peterson's goal put the Golden Eagles up 6-5. Oswego responded, scoring twice to finish out the third. Brockport entered the fourth quarter, trailing Oswego 7-6.
Askin started the fourth with his fourth point of the day, scoring his second goal unassisted. Oswego scored twice more, leaving Brockport trialing 9-7 with four minutes left on the clock.
Jack Peterson snuck the ball into the net with 1:38 left in the game, assisted by Olivares. It became just a 1-goal game heading into the final stretch.
During an Oswego clear, the Lakers turned the ball over with just ten seconds left on the clock. Olivares ripped his shot from the blue line before the alarm sounded ending the game, but the shot was halted. Oswego held on for the hard-fought win over the Golden Eagles, 9-8.
Cameron Kuzniar spent 60 minutes in the net, allowing nine goals and making 18 saves.
Brockport will host Oneonta on Saturday, April 1
st at 1pm for another SUNYAC matchup at home.
