Brockport Drops Heartbreaker to Nazareth, Burnash Posts Career-High in Points

Rochester, NY – The Golden Eagle women's lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker on the road against Nazareth on Thursday afternoon, 13-12. Brockport led 11-10 going into the fourth, but Nazareth rallied and scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of play.

Continuing her incredible start to her senior campaign, Cassidy Burnash set a new-career high in points on the day. She had seven points on five goals and two assists to lead the Green and Gold.

Brooke Beetow finished with three goals to record her first hat trick of the year. Alayna Foos had three points on a pair of goals and one helper in the contest. Paige Thowe also scored twice and freshman Courtney Bednarz had one assist.

Making her second career start in net, Hannah Parsons made seven saves and allowed 11 goals. Senior Erin Lant stepped into the cage in the fourth quarter, making one stop and giving up two scores. Courtney Cunningham was all over the field racking up five ground balls, four caused turnovers, and four draw controls.

Nazareth scored first on the way to an early 2-1 lead, but the first quarter belonged to Brockport after that. Burnash had three goals and Beetow scored twice to spark the Golden Eagles offensively. They held a 5-2 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.

The non-conference opponents traded blows in the second, as both teams scored three goals in the period. The Golden Flyers struck first, but Foos quickly answered for Brockport. After a pair of Nazareth goals, Beetow and Thowe found the back of the net for another response for the squad. The Green and Gold held an 8-5 lead going into halftime.

A pair of Nazareth goals in the first few minutes of the third quarter cut the deficit down to just one. This time it was Thowe and Burnash who put Brockport back in control with back-to-back scores. Foos would also beat the goalie once, but the Golden Flyers won the period, 5-3. They trailed by just one goal heading into the fourth.

Less than two minutes into the final frame, Burnash would register her fifth goal of the game to put Brockport up, 12-10. However, Nazareth would soon pick up some momentum on its home field. The Golden Flyers scored three unanswered goals, including the game-winner with just 44 seconds left to play.

Brockport moves to 1-5 overall on the season, while Nazareth improves to 3-5. The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday for another road contest. They head to SUNY Potsdam for an 11am start as the squad resumes SUNYAC play.
