Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team is on the road for a pair of conference matchups this week. The Golden Eagles will take on Oswego at 4pm on Wednesday before heading to Oneonta for Saturday's 3pm game.
Heating Up: After starting the season 1-5 overall, Brockport has turned it around since the beginning of SUNYAC play. The squad has won three in a row, including two wins by 10 or more goals. Finding a rhythm on the field the Green and Gold are 3-1 in the conference and now sit at 4-5 overall.
Last Time Out: Last week the team dominated Plattsburgh, 15-5, at home for a third straight win. Brockport put up 12 goals in the first half compared to just three from the opponent. At the 7:50 mark in the first quarter,
Cassidy Burnash recorded the 100
th goal of her career. She became just the 14
th player in program history to reach this milestone.
Lighting it Up: During the team's win streak several players have hit new career-high numbers offensively. Against Potsdam
Cassidy Burnash had three goals, eight assists, and 11 points for career-highs in assists and points.
Alayna Foos had a personal-best six points against Plattsburgh from four goals and two assists. In the win over Fredonia
Courtney Cunningham and
Julia Quinlan both had a career-high of five goals. Cunningham also scored the 50
th goal of her career last week. With three goals against Plattsburgh,
Paige Thowe notched the first hat trick of her career.
Hustle Plays: Courtney Cunningham has been a crucial piece of the lineup as a starting midfielder for the Green and Gold. She is currently leading the team with 36 ground balls, 37 draw controls, and 14 caused turnovers.
Alexandria VanDerKar is second with 19 draw controls to go with her 13 ground balls.
Paige Thowe is second on the team with 17 ground balls this season.
Taylor Ford has caused 13 turnovers defensively to go with 12 ground balls and 18 draw controls.
Parsons in Net: Freshman
Hannah Parsons has earned the starting goalie job at this point in the season, making five starts while playing in all nine games. She owns a record of 3-1 in net and has come up with a total of 66 saves.
Looking at Oswego: The Oswego State Lakers enter this week with a record of 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC. They most recently defeated Potsdam on the road in convincing fashion with the final score reading 21-3. #5 Sela Wiley leads the way for the Lakers, recording team-highs of 56 points, 30 goals, and 26 assists.
Scouting Oneonta: The Oneonta Red Dragons are 3-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference after last week's action. They lost both games played last week, falling to Geneseo 17-6 and Cortland 19-2. #15 Megan Foiles leads the offensive attack with 48 points from 34 goals and 14 assists. Oneonta will take on Potsdam Wednesday ahead of this weekend's meeting with Brockport.
