Softball Prepares for Weekend Homestand

Brockport, N.Y.- The Golden Eagles softball team will have a full week of SUNYAC action as they take on SUNY Cortland in doubleheader action on Friday, April 21st at 3 pm and 5 pm before facing off with Oswego State on Saturday, April 22nd at 12 pm and 2 pm.
 
Last Time Out: Brockport picked up its first conference win of the year, splitting a doubleheader with Fredonia. The Green and Gold dropped game one 5-1 before winning game two 6-4.
 
Game One: CF Kellie Gentile brought a runner home in the second with an RBI sac fly to tie the game at one in the third. Fredonia would score 4 unanswered runs to run away with the win. P Emily Chelius earned her first win of the year with a strong 9-strikeout performance across 7 innings of work. P Fiona Gibiser (L, 2-9) kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance with her 6-strikeout performance while only allowing 3 earned runs.
 
Game Two: Senior Annie Dipirro got the scoring started early with her RBI single in the first, the first of two RBIs for Dipirro in the game. Fredonia would come back from 3-1 down to take a 4-3 lead in the 5th before a Danielle Wenzek RBI single would tie the game at 4-4. Brockport would scratch together two more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 6-4 as P Roseland Stroh (W, 2-5) would shut the door in the 7th to secure the win. The Golden Eagles would improve to 4-18 overall and 1-7 in SUNYAC play.

Second Half Performer: After going just 3/22 in out-of-conference matchups, Senior Annie Dipirro has hit midseason form, going 6/17 at the plate in SUNYAC matchups thus far. The first basemen have led all Brockport hitters in batting average (.353), RBIs (3), and total bases (6) in SUNYAC play while also holding a perfect fielding percentage on the year.
 
Scouting Cortland: The Red Dragons hold a 13-11 record with a 4-4 record in SUNYAC play, most recently sweeping Oneonta in doubleheader action 16-9 and 9-1 in 5 innings in game two. Cortland is led offensively by OF Gina Meyers, who leads the SUNYAC in triples (2), and is second in conference play in runs (10), hits (15), and stolen bases (5). The Green and Gold have dropped the last 6 matchups against the Red Dragons, including a loss in last year's matchup 3-0.
 
Scouting Oswego State: The Lakers hold a 7-17-1 record overall with a 2-6 record in SUNYAC play, they are coming off a doubleheader loss to New Paltz, losing game one 1-0 and game two 9-0 in 5 innings. Brockport has won 5 of the last 7 against Oswego including last year's matchup 11-6.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will be home for non-conference doubleheader action against Medaille College on Thursday, April 27th at 3 pm and 5 pm.
