Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse program beat Plattsburgh State 12-7 on Saturday afternoon on the New Turf in Brockport, NY. With 11 saves on the day,
Cameron Kuzniar totals 188 for the season to break the single season saves record of 186 set back in 2002 by John Contratto.
The Golden Eagles had an explosive showing offensively with eight goals in the first half to create a nice lead. They scored four in each quarter, stringing together five unanswered goals against the visiting Cardinals.
Jhovanny Olivares got the ball rolling with a goal 3:58 into the first unassisted.
Blake Palozzi followed his lead scoring with 6:20 left in the first unassisted. Plattsburgh snuck one past Kuzinar, but
Nate Askin answered with two goals. He scored once with 2:07 left in the first assisted by
Ryan McCarthy, and then his second with 1:22 left on the clock, unassisted.
Brockport dominated the second period as well.
Ben Hay opened the period with 13:44 left in the period, by scoring, unassisted.
Jesse Wooley wanted in on the fun and scored with 13:12 left in the half, assisted by teammate
Justin Sullivan.
Ryan McCarthy scored with 12:07 left unassisted. Plattsburgh scored twice, before
Carson Colucci scored Brockport's eighth goal of the game with 3:28 left in the first half.
Plattsburgh trialed by five heading into the second half but opened up the third with a goal 5:49 into the period.
Ben Hay answered with another goal, assisted by
Jesse Wooley at 9:35 into the third. Brockport headed into the fourth quarter sustaining its 5-goal lead.
Nate Askin opened the final period of play with a goal at 2:52 into the fourth, unassisted.
Andrew DiPalma scored six seconds later at 2:58 unassisted, putting the squad up 11-4.
Ben Hay scored the final goal for the Golden Eagles with 11:01 left in the game, assisted by
Jack Peterson. Plattsburgh scored three more goals before the game ended but could not catch up to Brockport's 12 goals.
Cameron Kuzinar started in the net for the Green and Gold, playing 51:51 minutes. Making 11 stops, he is now the new program single season record holder for saves (188) with still two games left to play in the regular season. He let up four goals and earned the win in net.
Evan O'Connor played 8:09 minutes making one save and allowing three goals.
Brockport will be on the road Wednesday, April 26
th at SUNY Geneseo to face the Knights at 7pm. The Golden Eagles are now 2-3 in conference play and 4-8 overall.
