Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagle volleyball team defeated RIT, 3-1, in their home opener Tuesday night. They now improve to 3-6 overall on the season and are 1-0 at The Vlog.
Brockport battled hard in the first set on the way to a 25-21 win for the first point of the match. The visiting RIT Tigers bounced back in the second to tie the score up at 1-1 after a 25-20 win in the set. The third set saw a 25-17 win for the Green and Gold to take a 2-1 lead. Brockport closed out the match with a 26-24 showing in the fourth set, claiming the 3-1 win.
Four different Golden Eagles registered 11.0 or more points on the night. They were led by 17.5 points from
Jordan Thompson, highlighted by 15 kills and three block assists.
Leah Vitiello had her strongest showing since joining the Green and Gold, posting 12 kills and three block assists for 13.5 points.
Alenna Williamson had an efficient night on the attack with nine kills on 12 total attacks (.667). She finished with four block assists as well to push her total to 11 points.
Megan Loomis matched her teammate with 11 points, connecting for eight kills and three aces.
Ashley Allen and
Kaitlyn Jewett both linked up with their teammates consistently throughout the match. The setting duo combined for 46 assists and just four errors. Allen also had three total blocks (1 solo, 2 assists), while Jewett contributed two aces.
Libero
Elsie Logan led the team with 15 digs in the game. She was also effective on the serve with a team-high four aces.
Gianna Felipe and
Brooklyn Sullivan both had eight digs. Felipe also had three service aces.
The Golden Eagles are on the road this weekend competing in a tournament hosted by Messiah University. They play the host, Messiah, on Friday at 7pm to kickoff the action. On Saturday Brockport will take on Rowan (1pm) and Gettysburg (3pm).
