Brockport Falls to Marietta & Mt. Union to Close Opening Weekend

Alliance, OH – On the second and final day of the Mount Union Tournament, Brockport ended the weekend another pair of losses to begin the year 0-4. The Golden Eagles fell to Marietta and Mount Union both by final match scores of 3-0.
 
At the conclusion of play out in Ohio, it was announced that Jordan Thompson would represent the Green and Gold on the All-Tournament Team. Through four matches she leads the squad with 42 kills and is second on the team with 31 digs.
 
Match 1 – Brockport 0, Marietta 3
 
In the first matchup of the day, Brockport was swept by Marietta in three straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-18). The Pioneers finished the weekend undefeated, starting the year 3-0.
 
Leah Vitiello had her best outing since joining the Golden Eagles with 10 kills for a team-high in the match. Alexis Sison contributed eight kills and five digs.
 
Kaitlyn Jewett tallied 14 assists for the second consecutive match and Ashley Allen added 12 assists. Jewett was also credited with a team-best 13 digs, for a season-high. Elsie Logan hustled for 11 digs for a season-high of her own.
 
Match 2 – Brockport 0, Mt. Union 3
 
The Golden Eagles took on the hosting Purple Raiders for the final battle of opening weekend. Mount Union swept Brockport (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) to close out the event with a 2-2 record.
 
Jordan Thompson and Emma Schumaker both registered nine kills while on the attack. Thompson also added nine digs, two aces, and a pair of block assists. Alexis Sison got up for seven kills and got down for seven digs.
 
With 15 assists, Kaitlyn Jewett set a new season-high to go with three service aces. Elsie Logan recorded four aces, while setter Ashley Allen connected for 13 assists. Logan also matched Gianna Felipe with 11 digs to lead the team.
 
The Golden Eagles will have the week to prepare for another tournament coming next weekend. They will start off the William Smith Tournament against Thiel on Friday, September 8th at 4pm.
