Alliance, OH – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team began its season with a pair of losses on the first day of action at the Mount Union Tournament. In the first match the squad fell to John Carroll, 3-2, before losing to Albion College, 3-0.
Match 1 – Brockport 2, John Carroll 3
The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start on Friday against John Carroll. They won the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-19 to grab a quick 2-0 lead in the match. However, the opposing team worked its way back into the contest.
John Carroll would go on to win the next three sets; 25-15, 25-14, and 15-8 to steal the match away from Brockport for the 3-2 win.
Jordan Thompson led the team with 20 total points in the match, coming from 18 kills and two aces. She also got down for 10 digs defensively. Teammate
Ashley Allen posted 41 assists, registering a new career-high.
Freshman
Emma Schumaker had a nice debut, totaling 15 kills in the match.
Megan Loomis added 10 kills to round out the top three attackers for Brockport in this one.
Brooklyn Sullivan's 14 digs were a match-high.
Attacking errors and blocks heavily favored John Carroll on the stat sheet. The winning team ended up with 23 less errors on the ball and nine blocks compared to zero for Brockport.
Match 2 – Brockport 0, Albion 3
The second matchup of the evening would be a different story, as Albion College took the win in three straight sets. After a hard fought, 28-26, win in the first set, the team went on to take the next two by scores of 25-15 and 25-18.
Jordan Thompson led the team offensively again with 11 kills.
Alexis Sison chimed in with nine kills to go with 11 digs in the match. Newcomer
Gianna Felipe had a team-high 16 digs against Albion.
Kaitlyn Jewett connected with her new teammates for 14 assists in the second leg of Friday's slate.
Kaia Hubbard and
Alenna Williamson both totaled two blocks in this one, after the team went without a block earlier against John Carroll.
The Golden Eagles look to bounce back on Saturday with another pair of matchups to close out the trip to the Mount Union Tournament. They face Marietta at 12pm before taking on the hosting Purple Raiders of Mount Union at 2pm.
