Brockport, NY – This weekend the Brockport volleyball team will be back in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium for the start of SUNYAC play. Brockport takes on Plattsburgh Friday night at 6pm and will face Potsdam on Saturday for a 1pm start.
Last Time Out: Brockport went 1-2 last weekend at the Messiah University Invitational. The squad defeated the host school Messiah, 3-1, to begin the slate. Then on day two the Green and Gold lost to Rowan, 3-1, and Gettysburg, 3-0. The team enters conference play this weekend at 4-8 overall.
On the Attack: Jordan Thompson is the leading threat offensively for the Golden Eagles, totaling 172.0 points through 12 matches. With a team-high 153 kills, she is tied for second in the SUNYAC.
Alenna Williamson is second on the team with 78 kills this far.
Protecting the Net: There are four different players with at least 10 or more blocks for Brockport.
Jordan Thompson and
Alenna Williamson lead the way with 18 total blocks.
Jayda Pyle has 16, while
Ashley Allen has 13 so far this year.
Digging Deep: Elsie Logan has been heavily involved defensively for the Green and Gold so far this season. Playing in the libero spot, the freshman has 155 digs so far to put her at fifth in the SUNYAC. Logan's average of 3.60 digs per set ranks sixth.
Jordan Thompson and
Gianna Felipe have also gotten down for solid dig totals of 97 and 91 respectively.
Top Facilitators: Both Golden Eagle setters have been effective this season, as they each have earned a top 10 spot statistically in the SUNYAC.
Ashley Allen currently ranks fifth in the conference with her total of 215 assists. Her average of 5.81 assists per set is fourth best in the SUNYAC.
Kaitlyn Jewett is averaging 5.45 assists a set to rank fifth, while her tally of 169 assists is eighth in the conference.
Scouting Plattsburgh: Friday night will mark the start of SUNYAC competition for both Brockport and Plattsburgh. The Cardinals enter the match with an overall record of 7-4, coming in after back-to-back losses to Nazareth and Morrisville. #4 Liya Girma leads the Plattsburgh attack with 120 kills on the season. #14 Jeannette Ashong has been effective in the middle with 22 total blocks. #15 Payton Zophy leads the Cardinals with 218 digs, averaging 5.07 digs per set. In the head-to-head series, Brockport has won eight matches in a row over Plattsburgh including a 3-1 win last year.
Looking at Potsdam: The Potsdam Bears enter the weekend with a record of 4-7 overall and they will begin conference play Friday night against Geneseo. With 148 kills through 11 matches played, #14 Alyssa Adams currently leads the team offensively. Adams has totaled 167.5 points to average 4.19 points a set. #12 Madison Gilliland is tops for the Bears with 111 digs and teammate #3 Lexi Price has 13 total blocks for the team lead. In the matchup between Brockport and Potsdam, the Green and Gold have won nine matches in a row.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will continue conference play on the road next weekend for another pair of matches. They take on New Paltz at 6pm on Friday, before heading to Oneonta on Saturday for a 1pm match.
