Tennis is Back Home for Two SUNYAC Matchups This Weekend

Brockport, NY - The Brockport Tennis team will open up SUNYAC play this weekend with two matches. The Golden Eagles will take on Oswego State on Friday, September 8th at 4 pm, before facing off with Cortland on Saturday, September 9th at 12pm.

Last Weekend: The Green and Gold came away with a split between last weekend's out-of-conference matchups, dropping Friday's match with St. John Fisher 7-2 before sweeping Houghton 9-0 on Saturday. Brockport's two points against Fisher both came in doubles play, with the 1st doubles duo of Eliza Gonzalez and Olivia Raschiatore defeating Olivia Rizzo and Kathryn Strait of Fisher 8-5, before Samantha and Shannon Aubin earned an 8-5 win in 2nd doubles play.

Against Houghton, three Golden Eagles earned a sweep, including Eliza Gonzalez in 1st singles play, Samantha Aubin in 4th singles play, and the team of Lena Paolicelli and Sophie Langdon in 3rd doubles play. Brockport will enter the weekend with a 1-1 record, looking to fair well in the start of conference play.

SUNYAC Doubles Team of the Week: On Tuesday, September 5th Samantha Aubin and Shannon Aubin were selected as the SUNYAC Doubles Team of the Week. The twin sister duo of Samantha and Shannon went 2-0 in the 2nd doubles slot for Brockport on opening weekend. The Aubins took the win in the first match of the year against St. John Fisher. Then in the Golden Eagles' 9-0 sweep over Houghton, the pairing won 8-3 in the second doubles slot.

Scouting Oswego: The Lakers opened the year with a 6-3 loss to Alfred University, dropping all three doubles matches before splitting the 6 singles matches 3-3.  Brockport will look to continue its dominance in the head-to-head series against Oswego, winning the last 2 matchups and 7 of the last 10 matches dating back to 2014.

Scouting Cortland: The Red Dragons opened the season with a 6-3 loss at Hartwick and are coming off a 2022-23 season that saw Cortland go 7-5 with an appearance in the SUNYAC Semifinals. Brockport will look to make the head-to-head series more competitive following a 9-0 defeat to the Red Dragons last year.

Up Next: Following this weekend of action, the Golden Eagles will hit the road to face off with Alfred University on Friday, September 15th at 4 p.m.
