Brockport, NY - The Brockport Tennis team will open up SUNYAC play this weekend with two matches. The Golden Eagles will take on Oswego State on Friday, September 8
th at 4 pm, before facing off with Cortland on Saturday, September 9
th at 12pm.
Last Weekend: The Green and Gold came away with a split between last weekend's out-of-conference matchups, dropping Friday's match with St. John Fisher 7-2 before sweeping Houghton 9-0 on Saturday. Brockport's two points against Fisher both came in doubles play, with the 1
st doubles duo of
Eliza Gonzalez and
Olivia Raschiatore defeating Olivia Rizzo and Kathryn Strait of Fisher 8-5, before Samantha and
Shannon Aubin earned an 8-5 win in 2
nd doubles play.
Against Houghton, three Golden Eagles earned a sweep, including
Eliza Gonzalez in 1
st singles play,
Samantha Aubin in 4
th singles play, and the team of
Lena Paolicelli and
Sophie Langdon in 3
rd doubles play. Brockport will enter the weekend with a 1-1 record, looking to fair well in the start of conference play.
SUNYAC Doubles Team of the Week: On Tuesday, September 5
th Samantha Aubin and
Shannon Aubin were selected as the SUNYAC Doubles Team of the Week. The twin sister duo of Samantha and Shannon went 2-0 in the 2nd doubles slot for Brockport on opening weekend. The Aubins took the win in the first match of the year against St. John Fisher. Then in the Golden Eagles' 9-0 sweep over Houghton, the pairing won 8-3 in the second doubles slot.
Scouting Oswego: The Lakers opened the year with a 6-3 loss to Alfred University, dropping all three doubles matches before splitting the 6 singles matches 3-3. Brockport will look to continue its dominance in the head-to-head series against Oswego, winning the last 2 matchups and 7 of the last 10 matches dating back to 2014.
Scouting Cortland: The Red Dragons opened the season with a 6-3 loss at Hartwick and are coming off a 2022-23 season that saw Cortland go 7-5 with an appearance in the SUNYAC Semifinals. Brockport will look to make the head-to-head series more competitive following a 9-0 defeat to the Red Dragons last year.
