Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team held on for the win at home Tuesday night against Fredonia, 77-73. The victory puts Brockport at 9-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Tony Arnold led the way for the Golden Eagles with a game-high 23 points. He also finished with five assists, three steals, and a block. Arnold was effective at the charity stripe, making 9 out of his 11 free throw attempts.
Zachary Rice and
Tyler Cowie both provided valuable production off the bench. Rice had 16 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-5 from downtown. Cowie went 7-for-10 in the game, totaling 15 points.
The two squads traded blows early on in the first half, as Fredonia worked to take a slim, 10-9, lead. It wasn't until the 6:12 mark when the Green and Gold took the lead on the home floor. Brockport closed the half well to take a 34-29 lead at the break.
The Golden Eagles would quickly make the lead double-digits to start the second. Just three minutes into the half they would lead by 13 points over the visiting Blue Devils. With nearly six minutes left in regulation, Brockport would hold a 70-52 advantage on the scoreboard.
Fredonia would start to make a run late in the game, looking to make things interesting. A big 3-pointer at the 1:14 mark made the score read, 76-73. A made free throw and a pair of stops defensively allowed Brockport to hold on for the win.
Brockport hits the road this weekend for another conference battle. The squad will travel to face Geneseo on Saturday at 4pm.
