Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team has a busy week coming up with three SUNYAC games on the schedule. The Golden Eagles hit the road Tuesday night for a matchup with Fredonia (7:30pm). They then are home this weekend for clashes with Potsdam on Friday (7:30pm) and Plattsburgh on Saturday (4pm).
Last Time Out: On Saturday, the squad won its third game in a row on Saturday, defeating Geneseo on the road, 71-55. The win improves Brockport's record to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in the SUNYAC. Brockport had four double-digit scorers in the game, led by 13 points from
Caquan Wester. The freshman went 6-for-10 from the floor, while grabbing eight rebounds and blocking a pair of shots defensively. As a team, the Golden Eagles shot a season-best 53.7% in the road victory.
SUNYAC Standings: Going into the week, the Green and Gold hold the third spot in the conference standings with a 6-3 mark in the SUNYAC. The full listing of the standings is as follows: 1. Stat Leaders: Tony Arnold is currently leading the team in several stat categories. He is averaging 13.5 points, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Arnold ranks inside the top 10 in the SUNYAC in all three categories.
Caquan Wester is Brockport's leading rebound with an average of 7.6 boards a night, which is top five in the conference. The freshman is also scoring 10.0 points a game. Classmate
Nathaniel Gordon is top five in the SUNYAC in 3-point shooting percentage at 47.8%.
Against Fredonia: The Blue Devils own a record of 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the SUNYAC going into Tuesday's clash with Brockport. The first meeting between these two teams this season saw the Green and Gold pull out a close, 77-73, victory at home.
Tony Arnold led the way for Brockport with a game-high 23 points in the win. Fredonia is looking to right the ship after losing five straight.
Hosting Potsdam: Brockport defeated Potsdam on the road earlier in the season, 90-74, and will look to sweep the regular season series at home this weekend. In the contest
Jacob Oka had a big day with 17 points on 80% shooting (8-of-10), while adding a career-high four steals. The Bears start the week with a 3-14 overall record and a 2-7 mark against SUNYAC opponents. They have lost four in a row and are just 1-7 on the road this season. Brockport has won eight straight games in the head-to-head series with Potsdam.
Looking at Plattsburgh: The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are looking to bounce back this week after a tough loss to New Paltz, 74-73, this past weekend. They are 8-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play going into the new week. When Brockport faced Plattsburgh on the road, the Cardinals came from behind late to steal the win, 73-72. Prior to the loss, the Green and Gold had won seven in a row against Plattsburgh.
Coming Up: Following the weekend slate the Golden Eagles will be on the road on Tuesday, January 30
th for a trip to Buffalo State. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30pm.
