Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Comeback Comes Up Short Against Plattsburgh

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team had its 5-game win streak snapped on Saturday, falling to Plattsburgh at home, 69-64. Brockport is now 12-6 overall with an 8-4 mark in the SUNYAC.

Tony Arnold posted a double-double for the Golden Eagles, finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, two assists, and a block. Alex Tavarez hit double figures on the scoring column with 10 points to go with four assists.

The game opened with some back and forth action, as the two SUNYAC foes were tied at 10-10 early on. Brockport's offense would stall later in the first half, while Plattsburgh got hot from long range.

The Cardinals made seven 3-point shots in the opening half, surging forward to take a 20-point lead with 1:48 left until halftime. Brockport would go into the break trailing, 45-29, on its home floor.

A strong defensive effort would allow the Golden Eagles to claw back into the game in the second half. Nearing the halfway point of the half, Nathaniel Gordon nailed a long range bomb to make it a 7-point deficit.

A few minutes later, Gordon hit another big shot to make the score read 54-50. Gordon shot 3-for-4 from downtown, finishing with nine points off the bench. Brockport had crept back into striking range heading into the final stretch of regulation.

With 2:17 left on the clock, Tavarez scored to make it just a 1-point game. Plattsburgh succeeded in holding off the Golden Eagles with key makes at the foul line in the final two minutes. The Cardinals held on for the 5-point win, 69-64.

The Golden Eagles look to bounce back on the road next week with a trip out to Buffalo State. They take on the Bengals for another SUNYAC matchup on Tuesday, January 30th at 7:30pm.
