Women's Basketball Comes Up Short at Oswego

Oswego, NY - The Brockport women's basketball team lost a hard-fought SUNYAC matchup against Oswego, 61-56, on Friday, January 5th. The Golden Eagles fall to 5-5 and 1-2 in SUNYAC play following the loss.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a hot start, shooting 50% from the floor (8-for-16), and 75% from long distance (3-for-4), to take a 6-point lead into the second quarter.  
 
Zoe Zutes buried two 3-pointers in the second to help give Brockport a 7-point edge going into halftime. Zutes would finish the contest with 10 points on an efficient 66.7% shooting from the floor (4-for-6) with six rebounds.
 
With a 5-point lead to start the fourth quarter, the Lakers would take control in the final frame. They outscored the Green and Gold, 20-10, in addition to winning the rebounding battle, 18-9, in the fourth.
 
With the Golden Eagles trailing 57-56 with 50 seconds remaining, Giavanna White-Principio of Oswego would pour in the final four points of the contest. She made two clutch free throws to make the final score 61-56 in favor of the Lakers.
 
White-Principio would finish the contest with 14 points and 13 rebounds in a double-double effort, leading the contest with three steals and three blocks.  
 
Shania Iglesias would also add 14 points for the Lakers, adding five assists and four rebounds.
 
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led all scorers with 19 points, collecting two steals and five rebounds.
 
Zairea Hannah was busy on the boards, grabbing a career-high 20 rebounds with four assists and two blocks. She tied the fourth highest single game rebounding total in program history on the night. It is just the ninth time ever that a player has recorded 20 or more boards in a game.
 
Shannon Blankenship, Anna Lee, and Mandy Brink all added seven points for the Green and Gold.  
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in back in action against Cortland on Saturday, January 6th at 2 pm for a road tilt against the Red Dragons.
